Compensation: $15.00 per hour. Position not eligible for benefits

Summary
The Community Assistant works to support The Courtyards Main Office and serves as the first point of contact for residents. As a member of the Courtyards Staff, the Community Assistant (CA) is responsible for establishing and maintaining a positive and welcoming environments for all students.
The following are the specific qualifications and general descriptions of the major areas of responsibility. Courtyards professional staff members may assign additional tasks as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative Responsibilities
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Answer phones and transfer to the appropriate staff member.
- Logging in/out packages and conducting package audits.
- Filling out daily operations log via Formsite at the end of every shift.
- Ensure loaner keys are being returned in a timely fashion and residents are contacted when keys are past due. Conducting key audits.
- Assisting residents with collecting installment payments and writing receipts.
- Provide clerical assistance such as database entry, copying/scanning, collating, typing, making labels, and filing.
- Work closely with Main Office staff to complete special projects (as assigned).
- Provide excellent customer service on phone and in-person.
- Knowledgeable about social media and able to post creatively on multiple social media outlets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Publisher).
- Maintain strict confidentiality with the information you have access to.
- Conduct yourself in an honest, conscientious, and courteous manner at all times, showing respect for persons of all backgrounds, races, genders, interests, and abilities.
- Complete mandated Grace Hill education modules by communicated deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative as appropriate.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Wear appropriate attire and CTY provided shirt/jacket as instructed by Assistant Director – Resident Life.
- Properly use all keys provided by CTY as instructed in trainings/manuals.
- Follow all University of Maryland and The Courtyards at UMD safety procedures.
Communication and Referral
- Be knowledgeable on The Courtyards at UMD policies in order to best inform residents with questions.
- Provide residents with information on The Courtyards and UMD services and referring residents to appropriate services.
- Work cooperatively with all Courtyards Staff members.
- Maintain on-going communication with the Assistant Director - Resident Life and the Courtyards professional staff in regard to issues or concerns related to the residents or facilities.
- Support the goals and philosophies of The Courtyards.
Time Commitments:
- Must be available to start training and the position on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.
- Assist with opening and closing of the facilities at the beginning and at the end of each semester and provide office coverage over holidays, semester breaks, exam periods, when buildings are open (including Holidays and Spring Break). Dates will be provided during interview.
- Attend and participate in all staff training sessions. This includes, but is not limited to, Spring and Summer, and in-services as requested by the Assistant Director-Resident Life.
- Be present to work at least 10 hours each week at the Main Office Desk/Clubhouse Desk.
- Academic year hours of CA staffing the desk include (subject to change as needed):
- Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: 9AM-7PM
- Wednesday: 9AM-10PM
- Friday: 9AM-4PM
- Available to assist during special events as needed. During August check-in week, increased hours/coverage is needed.
- Provide academic course schedule by established deadlines each semester (must be available to work outside of academic courses).
- Monthly Community Assistant meeting to discuss updates and policies.
- Assist in Fire Watch Procedures as needed and directed by the Assistant Director- Resident Life.
- Participate in other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director- Resident Life.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Have high school diploma or GED.
- Have a semester and cumulative grade point average of at least 2.6.
- Full-time enrollment as a degree-seeking student at the University of Maryland.
- Be available to serve on the staff for an academic calendar year (August 16, 2023 to June 7, 2024).
- Be available for a minimum of 10 hours a week. Some evening hours may be required along with various weekends.
- Abide by and uphold all UMD Code of Conduct policies and CTY lease agreement/Resident Handbook (if a CTY Resident) and Resident Handbook.
- Maintain good standing with UMD in conduct, academics, and behavior.
Compensation
$15.00 per hour. Pay occurs on a bi-weekly schedule. Work between 10-20 hours each week. No more than 30-hours during certain times such as move-in, move-out and other busy time periods during academic year.
