Summary
A Summer Conference Assistant (CA) is responsible for supporting the Residence Life & Housing staff in various administrative functions and providing customer services that support summer students, guests, and conference participants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Work scheduled shifts in Housing Office.
- Serve on duty rotation and assume duty responsibility on varying days including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Provide support for summer residents and conference attendees by managing check-in and checkout processes and addressing inquiries.
- Serve as primary point of contact for summer residents in emergency situations.
- Manage and complete reports including incident reports, occupancy reports, damage billing, surveys, and reporting maintenance issues.
- Complete various administrative tasks such as filing, organizing, shredding, distributing print materials, inventorying supplies, creating posts/signs, etc.
- Assist with tasks such as inventorying linens, laundering, and sorting linens, setting up spaces, turning over spaces once guests have departed, and packaging linens at the end of the summer.
- Hold community programs for summer resident participants.
- Assist with room condition reports prior to Move-In and after Move-Out.
- Conduct health, safety, and maintenance inspections as scheduled and follow-up accordingly.
- Report maintenance concerns in a timely manner.
- Complete other facility management responsibilities as assigned.

- High School diploma
- Be a current student at Queens College.
- Be in good standing with Queens College and the Summit Apartments
- Demonstrate proficiency in verbal communication and possess strong customer service skills.
- Must have troubleshooting and diagnostic skills; and a willingness to learn.
- Applicant must be able to work both independently and as a team member.
- Applicants must understand and work with a diverse population.
- Applicants must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds and perform walking rounds in and between the building.
- Must reside in the assigned area for employment in The Summit Apartments.
- Knowledge of basic office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, and fax machine) and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Work Hours
Summer Housing Assistants must be available to work throughout the summer period (May 30-August 22) and reside in The Summit community. Work schedules will vary weekly and include mandatory shifts with fluctuating lengths to accommodate operational needs. Attendance at weekly staff meetings is required. Housing Office shifts will be scheduled between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, as well as 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Sunday, including weekends and holidays. All outside employment from this position supplemental employment must be arranged around all position responsibilities.

Compensation
Summer Housing Assistants receive a single efficiency apartment and paid $16.50 per hour for up to 30 hours per week.
Position not eligible for benefits. This is not an employment contract.
This position is to work for the Office of Housing and Residence Life, not a specific apartment or floor. Placement into a specific location is based upon a variety of factors. The Office of Housing and Residence Life reserves the right to change a position assignment at any time, if deemed necessary for the best interest of the office.
