JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance Technician / Mechanic will oversee the performance and maintenance of large production machinery. This position works closely with the Department Manager, Plant Manager, Department Mangers, Shift Supervisors and Engineering. The position requires good communication skills. Must be able to plan and prioritize issued assignments according to need. Expected to maintain over all care of the manufacturing machines, support equipment and utilities. Requires research, brainstorming and fact-based decision.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow all safety and HESS policies.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines.
- Thoroughly cleans machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary.
- Oils and lubricates moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance.
- Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts.
- Orders and installs replacement parts for machines.
- Identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.
- Repairs broken machines quickly and efficiently.
- Prepares reports documenting work performed.
- Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
- Coordinates with managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines.
- Collaborates with product manager or plant engineer regarding new products being added and modifications that will be required.
- Makes necessary modifications and implements tests runs; confers with product manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Must be able to use basic mathematical calculations such as add, subtract, multiply and divide.
- Working knowledge of hand / power tools, pneumatics, plumbing, carpentry, hydraulics and electrical.
- Communicate with Department Managers and Plant Manager on maintenance issues and general discussion.
- Participate in department audits and ensure all issues are resolved in a timely manner.
- Make fact-based decisions using data and historical knowledge.
- Must maintain a clean and organized area by using the 5S Principals.
- Continue to educate and increase knowledge on company tools and equipment.
- Help oversee mechanical systems.
- Diagnose and determine root causes.
- Assist with Facilities maintenance.

The work is primarily performed in a typical manufacturing environment. Wear safety attire or protective gear, when posted. may be exposed to distracting noise levels, may work within a few feet of other workers. For the most part ambient room temperatures and lighting as found in a typical office environment. Will be exposed to heat, cold and smells. Expect to work in confined spaces.
