Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this role will serve as both a technical expert and a team leader, driving the establishment of Caraway’s first engineering pod. Working closely with the cross-functional Digital Product team, the Lead Engineer will be instrumental in delivering a best-in-class e-commerce experience.This position involves ensuring scalable and high-performance technical solutions, overseeing the execution of core experience initiatives, and participating in all phases of development, including strategy, coding, testing, and sprint planning. The Lead Engineer will also mentor and guide team members, conduct performance reviews, and provide professional development opportunities.Who You Are : The ideal candidate is an experienced developer with a passion for creating exceptional e-commerce experiences. A strong ability to mentor and develop team members while driving technical initiatives forward is essential.Responsibilities : Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scope and implement scalable solutions for the customer-facing web experienceLead and mentor a team of developers, conducting regular 1 : 1 meetings, performance reviews, and supporting professional growthManage engineering resources efficiently through sprint planning, prioritizing tasks, and resolving roadblocks to ensure timely project deliveryDesign, develop, and scale high-traffic web platforms while maintaining a balance between performance, scalability, and deadlinesConduct thorough QA testing, including cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility, in partnership with the digital product teamMaintain comprehensive technical documentation and contribute to its development as neededImplement third-party pixels and integrate analytics tools to support data-driven decision-makingFoster a collaborative team environment by ensuring clear priorities and open communication between cross-functional teamsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities : 6 years of experience in full stack development2 years of experience in e-commerce, preferably in a direct-to-consumer environment3 years of people management experienceExpertise in frontend and backend development using modern HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and web APIsProven ability to troubleshoot technical challenges, remove blockers, and drive solutions forwardExperience with e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, Magento, or BigCommerceProficiency in React frameworks such as Gatsby or Next.js in a production environmentSelf-starter with a strong desire for learning and continuous improvementExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions and manage people effectivelyCompensation : The anticipated base salary for this role is between $135,000 - $160,000. Final compensation will be determined based on various factors, including skills, qualifications, and experience.
