Top-Hammer Rock Drill Operator β Construction Blasting
We are seeking a dependable and experienced Top-Hammer Rock Drill Operator to join our construction blasting team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in operating top-hammer drills to support controlled rock excavation for civil construction projects. This role requires precision, awareness of safety protocols, and the ability to work efficiently in varying terrain and site conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Drilling Operations
Operate top-hammer rock drills to drill blast holes according to specified depths, diameters, and patterns in the blast plan.
Adjust drilling parameters to suit changing rock conditions and ensure accurate hole placement.
Maintain alignment and spacing of holes for optimal blast performance and safety.
Monitor drilling efficiency and make adjustments for productivity and accuracy.
Site Preparation & Equipment Maintenance
Set up drill rig safely based on terrain and layout conditions.
Conduct pre-operation inspections and perform routine maintenance on drilling equipment.
Track and document footage drilled, hole counts, and equipment hours daily.
Identify and report mechanical issues or unusual ground conditions.
Blasting Support
Work closely with blasters to ensure holes meet layout specifications and are ready for loading.
Communicate any subsurface changes such as voids, seams, or water inflows that may affect blasting.
Ensure all holes are properly cleaned and ready for loading as directed.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all company safety protocols, including use of PPE and adherence to OSHA/MSHA standards.
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
Immediately report any safety concerns, incidents, or near misses.
Qualifications
At least 2 years of experience operating top-hammer rock drills in a construction or blasting environment.
Familiarity with industry-standard drill models such as Epiroc, Sandvik, or Furukawa.
Ability to read and follow blast layouts and grade stakes.
Solid understanding of drilling patterns, ground conditions, and safe work practices.
Strong work ethic and ability to work in a physically demanding, outdoor environment.
- Proven experience operating bulldozers and trackhoe excavators in civil construction.
- Ability to read and understand grading plans and site layouts.
- Familiarity with GPS and laser grading technology is a plus.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and equipment maintenance.
- Physical ability to lift, climb, and work in various weather conditions.
- A valid CDL or heavy equipment operator certification is preferred.
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Outdoor construction sites in varying weather conditions.
- Full-time position with potential overtime and weekend work based on project needs.
