What Health System Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health 

Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers. 
 
Health System Pharmacy is responsible for providing customized pharmacy program solutions that reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals, health systems and other integrated healthcare providers may also consult with and advise healthcare team on prescribed medications, supplies and related processes.  
 
Job Summary 
The Technician II, Health Systems Pharmacy provides assistance to the Pharmacist in the daily operations of the pharmacy. Activities include the preparation of and filling of prescriptions, taking pharmacy inventory and processing product returns. The Technician II, Health Systems Pharmacy ensures that all orders are reviewed by a registered pharmacist and records all activity in compliance with regulatory and company guidelines. This job frequently communicates with customers to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment of all orders. 
 
Schedule  

  • Part time, 20 hours/week.

  • Monday-Sunday, 8:00am-5:00pm alternating weekends and holidays. 

Responsibilities 

  • Assist pharmacist in filling physician orders and medication carts as permitted by state board of pharmacy.  

  • Replenishes medications in emergency containers.   

  • Replenishes floor stock and reconciles charges.   

  • Accurately filling patient medication (cartfill) three days a week.   

  • Making special trips to deliver “stat” medications to the floors.  

  • Prepares IV admixtures safely and accurately using appropriate techniques.   

  • Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas.  

  • Entering patient charges and credits into the computer system.  

  • Assist in ordering, receiving, unpackaging and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations 

  • Restocking and maintaining compounding supplies.  

  • Interacting with other hospital personnel, including physicians and nurses, both on the telephone and in person.  

  • Rotates stock to ensure use before the expiration date.  

  • Attending both departmental and hospital inservices and programs.  

  • Operation of unit-dose packaging machine.  

  • Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.  

  • Generates reports, pick lists, and labels as required.   

  • Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately; files, documentation in appropriate locations 

  • Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well organized; keeps pharmacy equipment clean.  

  • Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department.  

  • Maintains competence required for current job title/position.  

  • Adheres to health-system policies and procedures; complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, medication-use safety, security, fire safety, and infection control; complies with all applicable federal/state/local laws, rules, and regulations; performs all duties under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • High school degree or equivalent preferred. 

  • West Virginia state pharmacy technician license. 

  • National pharmacy technician certification (PTCB).

  • Prior pharmacy technician experience in an Inpatient/Hospital/LTAC environment preferred. 

  • IV experience preferred. 

  • Excellent customer service skills. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Demonstrated ability to use technology such as computers, smart phones and tablets.

  • Refers complex unusual problems to supervisor. 

Anticipated hourly range: $15.60 per hour - $22.40 per hour.
