Position Summary
Performs cardiovascular and otherultrasound examinations of patients in accordance with industry standards; performroutine and non-routine tasks necessary to keep the clinical office runningsmoothly.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensurethe examination order is complete, contains relevant clinical information andverifies that any required pre-authorization is obtained
- Competentlyand efficiently performs ultrasound examination per protocol and in accordancewith written physician order.
- Useproper patient positioning and ergonomically correct scanning techniques toensure patient comfort and safety, prevent compromised data acquisition andprevent musculoskeletal injury to the sonographer
- Communicatewith the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient's ability to understand
- Abidesby patient privacy and confidentiality laws and policies
- Accurately documents patient's chart,database records and logs
- Applyindependent, professional and ethical judgment to ensure that the appropriateanatomical, pathological and clinical conditions are accurately captured in theexamination images
- Accommodatesadditional unscheduled studies when possible
- Maintainssanitary and professional environment
- Ensuresexamination images are available to the physician in the PACS system uponcompletion
- Ensuresthat physician is notified of all pertinent test results.
- Adheresto universal blood and body fluid precautions & safety guidelines
- Maintainsand re-stocks clinical supplies; notifies appropriate personnel of inventoryfor purchasing for Venous and ULS departments.
- Performany other services deemed reasonable by physician or supervisor.
Qualifications
Educationand Experience : A two-yearallied health degree and successful completion of an approved one-year programin ultrasound technology. Applicants must be eligible for registry by theAmerican Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or havecertification in RMDS, RVS, RVT or RCS. One-year experience as a cardiovascularsonographer or ultrasound technologist or an equivalent combination of relevanteducation and / or experience.
Knowledge : Proficiencywith ultrasonography equipment and software; computer skills; medicalterminology with concentration in cardiology
Abilities : Establish and maintain cooperativerelationships with staff members; create a responsive, caring environment forpatients; respond promptly to physicians' directions; maintain medical recordsin a concise and accurate manner; react quickly in emergency situations;recognize and prevent possible safety hazards; ensure proper maintenance ofequipment; communicate clearly and facilitate patient education when warranted;act as advocate and assist physician in meeting the well-being needs of the cardiologypatient; exercise independent judgment; perform functions that consistentlyfall within the legal boundaries of profession.
