Primary Function:
The Financial Counselor advises patients in all matters dealing with payment for hospital services. Serves as a resource for hospital staff and external contacts regarding policies, procedures and forms related to financial requirements for hospital services. Provides assistance with other department activities as needed.

Standards:
- Courteously meets with patients and families regarding financial obligations
- Assess patient痴 eligibility for CNE Charity Care, payment arraignments, health insurance opportunities, etc.
- Hold State of RI Navigator License, will train
- Assist patients in resolving all open accounts
- Conduct follow up, resolve issues in a timely manner
- Serve as a resource for hospital staff and external contacts regarding policies, procedures and forms related to financial requirements for hospital services
- Verifies third party sponsorship eligibility through online resources
- Documents information accurately in the hospital financial and information systems
- Obtains billing information and complete necessary work to ensure that information will be delivered to the correct biller
- Explain financial requirements and insurance/third party payor hospitalization benefits to the patient or responsible party
- Interpret and provide information regarding patient痴 copayment responsibilities and any applicable coinsurance, deductible and lifetime maximums
- Collection of patient liabilities
- Apply appropriate Community Benefit and Prompt Pay discounts as applicable
- Meet with patients who are Medicare exhausted and evaluate for additional payment source
- Follow up on missing insurance/financial forms
- Effectively verifies accuracy of prepared material prior to submittal or distribution
- Completes required request for reports in a timely manner, prioritizing workload
- High School required; Bachelor's preferred and a minimum of two years of hospital finance experience required.
- State of RI Navigator Certification preferred. (will train)
- Must possess excellent human relations and communications skills.
- Knowledge of personal computers and strong analytical skills required.
- Position requires scheduling flexibility and the ability to work in a fast paced clinical setting.
- Occasional travel necessary.
- Proficiency in the English
- Spanish language preferred
