Job Summary
A Peer Coach works as a mentor, guide, and resource broker to ensure individuals are receiving and connecting to all resources available within their community. This is a person who has experience receiving services and/or supports for a substance use.
Description of responsibilities:
- Provide direct services primarily in-person to individuals, as assigned, predominately in a community-based setting.
- Maintain decorum when working with law enforcement and emergency medical personnel.
- Conducts outreach within 72 hours of emergency medical event.
- Ensures assigned paperwork is completed and maintained in accordance with funding source standards and CARE of SEM policy and procedures.
- Demonstrates in practice there are multiple pathways to recovery.
- Able to delivers service in a short term setting by applying the screening brief intervention and referral to treatment model (SBIRT), when applicable.
- Facilitate timely referral and placements from hospital to treatment/recovery support providers.
- Ability to adjust hours of work based on the community needs, including some evening and weekends.
Required experience:
- Must be in long term recovery from a substance use disorder for at least two consecutive years.
- One year of peer coaching or related experience preferred.
Required skills / education:
- High school Diploma or graduate equivalent degree required
- Must possess active status in both certifications:
- Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC)
- Certified Peer Recovery Mentor (CPRM) or have an active development plan through MCBAP and timely completion.
- Certificate of completion of the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) Recovery Coach Academy, including ethics.
