What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) position at Career Care Institute?
Requirements:
- RN license, hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited school, and have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as an RN.
The Assistant Director of Nursing will work with the lead professional staff person for the development, organization and implementation for the VN program of Career Care Institute for all aspects relating to the Nursing Department. This is a part-time position, reporting 50% of the time to the role dedicated to the general administration of the Department.
The ADON will also have teaching responsibilities in either theory or clinical experiences.
General Description
The objective of the position of Instructor is to assure that students of Career Care Institute receive the most current training available in their chosen field of education. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of instruction; including student training and evaluation. Instructors report to the School Director. The core responsibilities of an instructor are to teach the current approved curriculum and provide evidenced based research/continuing education service to the school including curriculum improvement and other administrative assignments.
Instructors must demonstrate a superior knowledgebase in their specialized areas. The instructor is expected to enhance student success through the application of motivational strategies geared toward improved student outcomes. Instructors should apply superior skills in all phases of their field of specialty, subject or program of the school’s curriculum in which they teach. These fields include but are not limited to Medical Assisting (Front and Back), Medical Billing/Coding, Massage Therapy, Dental Assisting, and Licensed Vocational Nursing.
General Responsibilities
The general responsibilities of the Instructor will include but are not limited to:
Instructional Requirements:
o Have expertise in their field and able to demonstrate all training procedures.
o Current CPR/BLS card and/or instructor card.
o Maintain current working knowledge of current and Federal, State and Local Requirements of the field in which they teach, Career Care Institute policies and rules, syllabi and lesson plans, current school catalog.
o Adhere to syllabus as designed or prescribed by Career Care Institute.
o Maintain supplies and inventory and order supplies sufficiently in advance to allow for shipping.
o Uphold and enforce school policies.
o Demonstrate professional behavior and demeanor at all times with students and with CCI staff.
o Maintain appropriate confidentially with staff and student issues and discussions.
Teaching / Instruction of Learning:
o Arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of class.
o Prepare for class in advance.
o To a reasonable extent, instructors are to prepare for all planned leave and provide lesson plans for all absences resultant from scheduled leave and coordinate scheduled leave with the director.
o Routinely review exams, tests and if applicable quizzes on a weekly basis.
o Provide progress reports for students per level or module as appropriate for the program.
o Encourage and assist students experiencing difficulty with progressing in their course satisfactorily.
o Discourage classroom disruptions or engaging in excessive talking regarding non-school related issues.
Management of Student:
o Participate in the instruction of students
o Take attendance, monitor student assignments and report absences, tardies, grades and student conduct violations to the registrar via the roll book.
o Monitor student activities and physical facilities for safety compliance.
o Document all private discussions with students pertaining to school using available vehicles such as incident reports, progress reports and/or Student Advisement Form.
o Monitor student breaks (15 minutes break)
o Maintain appropriate supervision of the classroom at all times. Do not leave classroom unattended for extended period’s unrelated to instructional activities.
o Avoid using pagers or mobile phones in the classroom.
o Avoid having food and drinks other than bottled water in the classroom.
o Instructors are prohibited from using their position of authority to influence students in support of a personal agenda or against the school administration.
o Provide a thorough orientation for students that have just entered the classroom.
Administration Responsibilities:
o Attend all staff meetings.
o Cooperate with the school director and other CCI staff including the registrar, externship/job placement coordinator.
o Opens and closes classroom as assigned and in keeping with school schedules.
o Clocking-in and –out.
o Report any major problems to the School Director.
o Cooperate with supervisors, director(s), students and advisory board members for
improvement of the curriculum.
o Provide notice of extended leave six months in advance.
o All problems concerning employee issues are to be addressed to the director in a courteous and professional manner by requesting an appointment with the director.
o Instructors must not use sick time to free themselves for employment elsewhere.
o Participate in instructor evaluations.
o Familiarizing thoroughly with school policy via the CCI catalog/handbook.
o Communicate daily utilizing the cci communications network for updated information.
