POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) provides clinical leadership to the charge nurses and supervisors in the neighborhoods/households ensuring the mission, vision, and Core Values of the organization are supported through the clinical services of the neighborhoods/households. The ADON participates in planning, organizing, directing and facilitating the clinical operations of the neighborhoods/households to ensure regulatory compliance, nurture a person-centered resident-directed culture, strengthens the ability of the neighborhoods/households to grow as an individual and team learning in the neighborhoods/households. The ADON is part of the evening and weekend on call responsibilities The ADON reports directly to the Director of Nursing (DON) and supports the DON’s role by directing the nursing staff to accomplish the directives of the DON.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides leadership to clinical staff in all neighborhoods/households on specific areas of clinical accountability, specific accountability may include infection control, safety, wound management, and falls. Reviews and signs MDS assessments.

Assures that documentation, medication administration, resident nursing care, safety and sanitation, staff development, and resident rights are in compliance with facility standards by guiding the implementation of clinical policies and procedures which ensure safe, sanitary and efficient practices supporting professional nursing care standards.

Assist in overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the nursing department.

Contributes to proper hiring, orientation, training, clinical competency, coaching, educating, counseling and performance evaluations in a manner that is supportive of team and professional standards of practice.

Support organizational fiscal viability through efficient and effective use of all resources of the neighborhoods/households, including maintaining staffing needs and supply budgets within planned expenditures.

Supports a systemic approach to quality clinical care through guidance of the clinical component of continuous quality improvement with all staff in the neighborhoods/ households.

Assures all clinical policies and procedures are maintained. Interprets and communicates same to all staff as needed with an emphasis on resident and family relationships being established through trust and respect.

Maintains working relationships with physicians and other medical staff in support of quality clinical care in the neighborhoods/households fostering collaboration, consensus and negotiation to address problem solving in the neighborhoods/households.

Conducts nursing rounds throughout the day including the beginning and end of each shift.

Interacts with residents, resident family members, and friends of families about issues that require reporting and reports such to Director of Nursing and/or Administrator.

Assist Nurse Leaders or pharmacist in monthly disposal of drugs. Review pharmacy order books for proper compliance.

Supervise admission and discharge of residents for proper documentation.

Assist with the updating of patient care plans.

Participate in the supervision of students from community and schools as needed.

Attend in-service education programs and licensed staff meetings. Demonstrate carry-over of new or reinforce learning. Participate in establishing and improving standards of resident care by active contribution to creative ideas and sharing new innovations in nursing.

Implement nursing policies/procedures such as bowel, bladder, skin care programs, restorative nursing, and orders drugs from pharmacy as needed.

Complete resident incident reports with appropriate communication to physician.as needed

Supports Staff Developer with injury reports of employees and conducts investigation of employee injuries.

Act as resource person for fire and disaster preparedness.

Practice good body mechanics and use safety belt/support and gait belt as needed.

Assist in answering call lights as needed and provide medications and treatments per prescription by physician.

Participate in Culture Change process through committee assignments that may involve Steering Committee, Action teams, PersonFirst team, and/or self-led neighborhood/household teams.

Attend meetings and serve on various employee committees as assigned. Participate as Safety Team Member.

Proactively support the achievement of all team and organizational goals.
-
Be available on-call for alternating weekends and evenings in order to approve admissions and advise staff as off-hour needs arise.
Qualifications

Possess a valid RN license to practice nursing in the state of California.
-
Possess current CPR certification.
-
Three to five years of prior experience in skilled health facility or retirement facility preferred or equivalent leadership experience.

Possess leadership qualities, supervisory skills, interpersonal relationship skills.
-
Working knowledge of Title XXII and OBRA regulations.

Commitment to person-centered resident-directed care is essential.

Ability to maintain confidentiality in a variety of circumstances and make sound judgments.

Ability to report to work on time and complete the assigned work shift.

Understands the individual roles within the nursing staff and corresponding duties.
Salary : $45 - $55
