Chief Estimator ( Heavy Civil Construction) ( Onsite in Tucson, AZ) ( Full-Time)
Location : Onsite in Tucson, Arizona
Salary : $175K - $200K Base Salary
Must Haves :
- Experience in Transportation (highways, roadways, bridges), and Utilities (underground piping, water, gas, electric)
- Well-rounded skill set; experience with Asphalt is a plus
- Demonstrated longevity in previous roles
Job Duties :
Assisting senior staff in efficient and accurate bid reviewsAssist departments in evaluating bid opportunities.Soliciting for effective ways to boost the accuracy of estimates.Leading and managing a team of estimatorsTeach inexperienced estimators the bidding process.Crew size, productions, equipment, material, CPM schedules at the time of estimate, rental equipment rates if needed, wet vs. dry equipment rates, per diem, rooms, etc.Escalators in bids – Material – labor – fuel.Current weakness – Thorough understanding of the Special Provisions.Knowledge of what questions to ask during the bidding timeline.Review plans and specifications to help identify areas of risk and opportunity for the estimating team.Preparing quantity takeoff and estimate guidelines to aid in accurate estimates. Coordinate with the take-off Engineer.Maintaining HCSS masters to ensure labor, equipment, overhead rates, and other factors are up-to-date and accurate.
Maintaining overall HCSS Heavy Bid and Heavy Job systems as needed.Identifying and evaluating all the technical issues that are related to projects. "How can we build it better?”Preparing the estimated plan and coordinating estimate development with the project team, including the development of an estimated schedule. Crew availability? Equipment availability? Subcontractors? etc.Ensure estimating productivity and accuracy goals are met.Being present and actively participating in pre-bid meetings and site tours as needed.Review and ensure that the estimated production rates and unit cost rates are in line with the company's history and trends.Assist with technical proposal requirements and qualifications as needed.Carrying out other duties as assigned or required by management.Preparing cost reports and presenting results or findings to management, clients, vendors, or subcontractors.Developing and maintaining good healthy, and effective relationships with internal and external clientsAssist project managers with change order cost estimates.
