As a Lab Tech I, this position will be supporting the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Bayless where they will focus on research support related to conducting neuroscience experiments to increase our understanding of the neural circuits that underlie social behavior and the factors that alter these neural circuits. The position will be trained in specific techniques and methods in order to execute experiments designed by Dr. Daniel Bayless.
The Lab Tech I will be expected to carry out, document, and organize experimental results to the research team under close supervision. Candidate must be willing to work with mice and viral vectors.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Regularly receives general instruction on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments.
- Conducts mouse behavioral and histological procedures, including:
- Conducting social behavioral assays in mice
- Precise sectioning of mouse brain tissue
- Utilizing immunohistochemical staining and advanced microscopy techniques
- Organizing and analyzing behavioral and neural imaging data
- Preserves a clean and organized environment within the behavioral analysis and histology areas.
- Records detailed information about the procedures and experiments performed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
- Work is performed under direct supervision.
What we Require
- No professional experience required.
- Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Computer skills required: Microsoft Office
- Other skills (preferred):
- Prior experience or internships in a laboratory setting.
- Prior experience with histology, which may be gained from coursework and/or work experience.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and safety practices.
- Familiarity with specific laboratory techniques or equipment relevant to the Institute’s operations.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards.
What We Can Offer
The expected pay range for this position is $17.25 to $18.00 hourly. Salk Institute provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the institute reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
