As a Lab Tech I, this position will be supporting the laboratory of Dr. Christian Metallo, and under direction, position performs tasks and experiments in support of academic research projects. Responsibilities may include preparation for experiments, homogenizing tissues, cell and tissue extraction, RNA and DNA isolation, qPCR, BCA assay, mycobacteria assay, Western blots, loading samples on GCMS, plating, passaging, and freezing cells for tissue culture, general lab maintenance chores.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Label tubes and help prepare for tissue collection.
- Isolate RNA from cells and tissues, perform qPCR.
- Isolate DNA and run DNA gels.
- Perform Wester blots.
- Homogenize tissue and do extractions from cells and from tissue homogenates.
- Load samples on gas chromatography mass spec machine.
- Run BCA protein concentration assays
- Run Myoplasma detection assays on tissue culture samples
- Plate, passage, thaw, and freeze cells to maintain tissue culture lines and generate cells.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
What we Require
- No professional experience is required.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Computer skills required: Microsoft Office

The expected pay for this position is $17.25 per hour. Salk Institute provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the institute reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
