This is a hybrid position with in-office flexibility 2-3 days a week.
Summary
The Medical Stop Loss Underwriter is responsible for the evaluation of new and renewal stop loss business for ECU’s producers. Candidates should be detailed oriented, focused and able to multi task. The candidate should possess a background in Medical Stop Loss underwriting and demonstrate the ability to evaluate and analyze a plan sponsor’s total claims and high dollar claims plus show an understanding of ECU’s pricing manual. The underwriter will work directly with ECU’s sales team and should be comfortable interacting with clients, ECU staff and ECU stakeholders. Candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to meet deadlines.
Daily Responsibilities
- Processing medical stop loss quotes in accordance with weekly deadlines.
- Evaluating an RFP’s prospects for profitability.
- Collaborating with ECU’s nurse team on potential high dollar risk exposures on both new and renewal business.
- Maintain positive interaction and relationship with ECU clients.
- Collaborating with ECU’s sales team at an individual group level and broad overview of clients and prospective clients.
- Ability to problem solve a client’s underwriting needs in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Requirements
Education

- Bachelor’s degree.
Experience
-
- 4 years of Medical Stop Loss underwriting experience.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of Connexure system preferred but not required.

The base salary range for this position is $56,000 – $86,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
