What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Special Education position at CAREERXCHANGE®, Inc.?
The Director of Special Education is a key member of the Lower School Administrative Team and is responsible for leading student-related services, including Special Education, ESOL, the Learning Center, and more. You will drive the implementation of best practices in instruction and student support, ensuring every child receives a high-quality, individualized education in the least restrictive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, oversee, and integrate special education services across the lower school
- Mentor and manage LS faculty and staff in collaboration with the leadership team
- Support student enrollment decisions and personalized schedules
- Design and deliver impactful professional development
- Develop and implement Learning Profiles (LPs) based on educational evaluations
- Collaborate with teachers and families to support individualized learning plans
- Participate in PLC, CST, and curriculum development meetings
- Champion student advocacy, academic differentiation, executive function skills, and inclusive practices
- Liaise between educational partners and mainstream educators for smooth student integration
- Ensure robust communication with all stakeholders — teachers, parents, administrators, and counselors
- Coordinate testing accommodations and related logistics
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field (required)
- 10 years of experience in Special Education (required)
- 4 years in a school-based administrative/leadership role (required)
- Previous experience working in a school with 600 students (required)
- Strong knowledge of individualized learning strategies, curriculum design, and teacher training
- Proven ability to lead with empathy, innovation, and collaboration
