Join our growing team! CareMed Specialty Pharmacy is looking for a Sr. Director, Rare Diseases Clinical Services. At CareMed, we are re-defining specialty pharmacy with a focus on rare, cancer, and orphan disease management. Each patient receives disease-specific assistance throughout every phase of treatment. With clinical management, consultations, and medication compliance monitoring, we are working tirelessly to deliver outstanding pharmacy services to improve the lives of patients battling chronic diseases. This may be a remote opportunity, but will require up to 50% travel.

Salary starting at $147,000 and up

Sr. Director, Rare Diseases Clinical Services Position Summary: 
Provides appropriate recommendations for drug therapy and contribute to the optimal medication management of patients. Review, interpret, clarify, verify, and dispense medications and other pharmaceutical supplies pursuant to a medication order. Supports organization’s business development team with external and internal stakeholders. 
 
Sr. Director, Rare Diseases Clinical Services Major Responsibilities:  
  • Evaluates physician medication orders for appropriateness of drug, dosage, potential interactions, and route of administration.  Makes recommendations for therapy changes to the physician and facility staff as appropriate.
  • Serves as lead resource to internal stakeholders for medical/drug information inquiries
  • Maintains patient database to include appropriate current and past medical history, appropriate clinical and laboratory data, and concurrent medication (including over-the-counter and home remedies).
  • Ensures that appropriate laboratory tests for monitoring certain high risk conditions are ordered, evaluated and discussed with appropriate members of the healthcare team.
  • Collaborates with the healthcare team to provide clinical and technical support as needed.
  • Documents all communication with physicians, nurses, other members of the healthcare team and patients/residents and their family members in the medical record.
  • Assists in development of clinical patient support programs (i.e. Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services)
  • Develops and implements performance improvement activities to include medication safety, medication use evaluation, and pharmacoeconomics. Such activities include but are not limited to participation in Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) and Quality Committee meetings.
  • Performs on-going education and training of pharmacists, pharmacy interns, pharmacy technicians, nursese, and other key internal stakeholders
  • Internal-facing and/or external-facing presentations related to pharmacy capabilities, product portfolio, and/or continuing education as determined by supervisor
  • Supports Trade and Sales teams with development of relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers, physicians, medical centers, and insurance payors. Such activities include but are not limited to participation in quarterly business reviews (QBRs), attending pertinent industry conferences/meetings, developing focused clinical responses fore Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and Requests for Information (RFIs), developing drug- and disease-specific clinical content for all external and internal communications.
  • This position requires up to 50% travel.
  • Documentation of adverse events and products complaints per contractual obligations to pharmaceutical manufacturers.
  • Dedicated rare disease support and management of rare disease patients.
  • Assists facility/agency staff personnel with procedures relating to safe and effective methods of procuring, maintaining, administering and disposing of drugs.
Sr. Director, Rare Diseases Clinical Services Position Qualifications:
 
Education/Learning Experience
  • Required:  Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or PharmD
  • Desired:  Completion of PGY-1 and/or PGY-2 pharmacy residency training
Work Experience
  • Required: Five or more years of oncology pharmacy practice experience
  • Desired:  Three or more years of clinical pharmacy practice experience in a specialty pharmacy setting
Skills/Knowledge
  • Required:  Knowledge of pharmacy laws and federal and state regulations concerning long-term care and pharmaceutical care practices for long-term care residents. 
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
 
Licenses/Certifications 
  • Required:  Current pharmacist licensure in at least one state or US territory, Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) 
  • Desired:  Credentialing from Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) such as Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS)
Travel
  • This position requires up to 50% travel.
