Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant/Surgery Scheduler will support the CarePoint Neurosurgery division. This is a hybrid position that combines detail-oriented surgery scheduling with patient-facing medical assistance to create a seamless and exceptional experience for our patients. The Medical Assistant/Surgery Scheduler will act as a point of contact for patients throughout the entire surgical process and ensure that all necessary information regarding appointments and/or surgery has been obtained. The Medical Assistant/Surgery Scheduler is responsible for facilitating an efficient clinic of 2 providers.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in an outpatient clinical setting.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic clinic function and flow. Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work with all members of the practice.
- Top-tier customer service.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, providers, and payors.
- Strong commitment to actively supporting an ethical, open working environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, G Suite, and Electronic Medical Record systems.
- Ability to prioritize and problem solve.
- Ability to excel in a team-based environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Room patients, take medical histories, and record vital signs to prepare patients for examination.
- Arrange exam room instruments and equipment.
- Keep waiting rooms and exam rooms neat and clean.
- Follow up with patients before and after surgery.
- Coordinate patient appointments, orders, referrals, imaging reports, and records, including pre-appointment testing and any necessary records prior to the patient appointment.
- Scan patient information and enter patient data into computer
- Send letters to PCP as needed (i.e., no-shows, record requests etc.).
- Triage incoming calls and schedule patients for appointments.
- Make photocopies and process faxes as necessary.
- Participate in the delivery of quality care for our patients.
- Run an efficient clinic a minimum of 1 day per week.
- Collect deductibles from patients undergoing surgery.
- Facilitate scheduling between patients and hospital/surgical centers.
- Contact insurance carriers to verify benefits and request and secure necessary authorizations.
- Obtain pre-op clearance and fax to facilities prior to surgery.
- Educate patients on the pre-op process and reach out to patients at designated intervals prior to surgery to ensure preparedness for their upcoming surgery.
- Act as a point of contact for patients and provide frequent, clear, concise, and relevant information to the patient throughout the surgical process.
- Be available to assist with any patient need relating to upcoming appointments or surgery.
- Demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology and display a high proficiency of general medical office procedures, including HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain a high level of productivity.
- Clearly document all communication with providers and patients.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Service Line Manager or physician.
