Job Summary
Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating and reviewing financial transactions. Ensure cross training within the department.
Essential Functions
- Journal Entries:
- Analysis of accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance to accounting standards completed by second week of the month end process
- Prepare Journal entries accurately.
- Post to financial system during the close process
- Recurring entries made during the first week of the month end process
- Correcting entries are to be made during the second week of the month end process
- Communicate corrections needed to the right person within the department
- Balance Sheet Account Analysis:
- Analyze pertinent accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance to accounting standards completed prior to the closing schedule date
- Make correcting entries to other accounts before the next month’s close
- Daily Cash Report
- Preparation of Daily Cash Report and review for accuracy
- Grant Analysis
- Preparation of the Grant Analysis and review for accuracy
- Prepare Grant reporting in a timely and accurate manor
- Review all Grant reporting with Department Director prior to submission.
- Handle all financial aspects of any proposed grants.
- Bank Deposits
- Preparation of Daily Bank Deposits
- Expense Analysis
- Create reports, run and revise reports
- Process and provide to management prior to due date monthly
- Re-class miss postings
- Make necessary accruals
- Keep track of accruals
- Question variances for accuracy and discuss with right person in the department
- Preparation of Audit Schedules
- Maintain audit worksheets on a monthly basis
- Update and provide other analysis as needed
- Proficiency with accounting system
- Overall knowledge of accounting system
- Ability to post J/E’s, look up account status and maneuver through system to “drill down” on activity
- Ability to create, revise and update accounts.
- Back up accountant on the preparation of Statistical Data and Reporting
- Prepare all necessary statistical reporting
- Assure accuracy of statistical reporting
- Analyze and explain variances in statistical reporting.
- Assure cross training of all responsibilities within the department between other staff in the department.
- Maintain working knowledge of Patient Accounting system for purposes of looking up validating information and report righting.
- Maintain knowledge of standard accounting principles.
- Other duties as assigned by Financial Management.

Minimum Education/Certifications
Bachelors in Accounting, Finance or Economics.
Minimum Work Experience
3 years accounting or finance experience preferably in a hospital setting.

Ability to sit at a desk for long periods of time. Ability to effectively us a phone, adding machine and personal computer. Must be able to work under deadlines and stressful conditions. The ability to work both under supervision and independently. Contact with other staff and public is required to be handled in a professional manner. Information must be organized, interpreted, evaluated, coordinated and explained in an accurate and timely manner.
