Position: Emergency Communications Officer

Salary: $23.01/hr. after probationary period or lateral transfers
Job Description:
In this position you will receive emergency and non-emergency calls for service for multiple agencies. You will dispatch law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other emergency units. You will maintain contact with personnel in the field, operate a variety of transmitting/receiving equipment, perform a variety of general support duties related to dispatch activities, and do related work as assigned. Dispatchers also assist the detention center by ensuring the safety of all detention deputies, visitors and inmates by controlling, observing and documenting all movement of internal and external detention traffic activities electronically. You will visually and audibly use remotely controlled doors, gates, cameras, visual monitors, intercom systems, radios, and computers. Applicants must possess good communication skills, unimpeachable integrity, and a strong commitment to public service and to the community that we serve.
This position requires working 40 hours a week in rotating shifts that include working nights, weekends, and holidays. Benefits include paid vacation, holidays and sick time, medical, dental, vision, and PERSI retirement. Good character and clean background required. Applicants must pass a background investigation and become certified with Idaho Peace Officers Standards and Training Academy (all training is provided). Experience preferred but not required.
Minimum Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED equivalency is required
· Comprehensive knowledge of computers and data entry
· Must be computer literate
· Dispatch experience is preferred but not required
· Must be 18 years of age
· Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work
· Pass a criminal record’s check and be drug-free
· A Valid driver’s license is required
· Must be able to type 40 WPM
· Complete a polygraph test
· Pass a background investigation
· Must attend and successfully pas the POST Dispatch Academy within one year of hire date.
