What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Symphony Band position at Carleton College?
The Department of Music at Carleton College invites applications for a two-year visiting Director of the Carleton Symphony Band, for the 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 academic years, beginning September 1st, 2025. The position also includes the role of area coordinator for winds, brass and percussion. This is a 0.6 FTE appointment.
We seek a dynamic teacher and performer with an understanding of, and commitment to, music performance in an undergraduate liberal arts setting. Candidates should possess excellent communication and organizational skills. A Master of Music is required; a doctorate (DMA) is preferred. The successful candidate will direct the Carleton Symphony Band, which meets three times per week during each of Carleton’s three 10-week academic terms. Additional opportunities may include teaching private lessons and coaching chamber music, for additional compensation.
