Description

Position Summary:
The Assistant Production Manager is responsible for supporting FDA and cGMP compliant manufacturing, developing and leading the production team, overseeing the manufacturing reporting systems, and continuous improvement of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost within the production environment. The Assistant Production Manager is responsible for supporting the annual production plan to ensure the successful, cost effective, timely and safe processing of customer orders. The Assistant Production Manager works closely with the Production Manager and provide support across both 1st and 2nd shifts. This position will require close collaboration with the internal team including Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Customer Service, Supply Chain, Human Resources and Finance.

Functional Responsibilities:
Safety:

  • Ensure the organization achieves established Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) metrics, identify system gaps which prevent achieving metrics, and appropriately implement corrective measures.
  • Conducts required safety training as required by local, state, or federal law and/or company policy.
  • Support and/or lead training program efforts including annual training, new hire training, refresher training, toolbox talks, etc.
  • Champion a safety culture that will drive an organizational culture towards zero injuries and compliance.
  • Promote continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Conduct safety audits, Gemba walks, trending and risk assessments to identify opportunities for improvement. Ensure ongoing compliance and completion of previously identified items.
  • Attend and support safety meetings
  • Execute and/or support completion of needed action items

Quality:

  • Ensure Quality systems & programs are followed to comply with company, federal and state requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable corporate and regulatory SOP, cGMP, and safety guidelines.
  • Support the continuous improvement culture as it relates to non-conformances (NCs) including root cause analysis. Mentor and coach direct reports including creation and review or quality metrics, as appropriate.
  • Participate in internal / external quality audits.
  • Participate in Quarterly NC review meetings and support corrective action plans.
  • Participate in monthly Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) review meetings and support corrective action plans.
  • Perform review and approval of work instructions (WI), standard operating procedures (SOPs), Batch Records (BR) and associated forms impacting Production, as needed.
  • Conduct training of Production Supervisors and/or staff, as appropriate.

Delivery:

  • Lead and/or participate in the Daily Production alignment meeting.
  • Support delivery of the annual production build plan.
  • Lead and/or support the establishment of work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet on-time shipment and inventory goals.
  • Support new product development (NPD) and integration of new products and/or processes into production.
  • Support and/or direct the activities of employees engaged in the production of products.
  • Conduct daily/weekly Gemba walks to monitor performance & lend leadership assistance where needed to achieve performance goals.
  • Conduct and/or review department 5S audits and ensure open issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Lead and/or support weekly Production supervisor team meetings and follow-up on open issues preventing success.
  • Support all shifts through effective communication and coaching, and look for ways to expand
  • Use operating systems such as NAV, uniPoint, FMES, PowerBI to monitor and respond to trends or gaps

Cost:

  • Coach associates on continuous improvement project opportunities through execution (i.e. A3).
  • Support the continuous improvement of manufacturing Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • Support execution of operating budgets.
  • Review weekly financial reports and Operations Scorecard to identify output productivity and efficiency opportunities and respond to any gaps identified.
  • Participate in developing the annual production build plan. Monitor production output results daily, weekly and monthly and respond as needed to ensure that the annual build plan is met.
  • Participate in the development of the annual capital expenditures plan and support the integration of new equipment into production.
  • Assist in managing scrap expense budget by production department.

Performance Management:

  • Develop, motivate, and direct employees they work and identify the best people for the job
  • In partnership with Human Resources, review, draft and/or participate during disciplinary corrective action reports for associates.
  • Promote opportunities for team members to upgrade skills through training sessions and seminars
  • Ensure employees receive necessary and appropriate training for their job functions.
  • Support Engineering and Maintenance teams as needed with respect to preventive maintenance activities and work towards building strong relationships.

Required Experience, Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a manufacturing environment (Operations, Supply Chain, Quality and/or Engineering)
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) highly desirable
  • Willingness and flexibility to support Production personnel on 1st or 2nd shift, as needed.
  • Experience with FDA and cGMP manufacturing facilities and regulations, preferred.
  • Strong leadership & interpersonal skills, and the ability to influence others, deliver results, make an immediate impact, and manage by fact.
  • Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills
  • Solid analytical, and technical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to identify the root cause of complex problems and implement & maintain effective solutions
  • Demonstrated track record of success using Lean or Six Sigma processes to achieve breakthrough performance improvement, preferred
  • Good working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other specialized software packages
  • Experience with work order management, production software and ERP systems, preferred
  • Desire and ability to work in an entrepreneurial environment (constantly changing, growing and improving)
  • Experience with new product development processes and successfully integrating new products in a production environment, preferred
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, cost management, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods, preferred

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Business, Logistics or related field, preferred. An Associate’s degree with additional experience will be considered.
