DIVISION: MONON COMMUNITY CENTER
REPORTS TO: RECREATION SERVICES MANAGER – PROGRAMMING
FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT – starting at $21.00 per hour

The purpose of this full-time position is to develop, implement and assess exemplary recreation programs serving the leisure needs of participants of all ages in the Carmel/Clay community by utilizing staff and instructor expertise, existing parks spaces, programming trends, and inter-department collaboration. Other duties include supervising, directing and monitoring the activities of assigned part-time, seasonal, and/or contractual recreation staff.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

- Develops, plans, implements, schedules, and coordinates exemplary and innovative fee-based recreation programs and activities.
- Collaborates with Recreation Program team to provide a well-balanced offering of programs.
- Manages all proposals, scheduling, contracts, W-9s, insurance, and invoices for contracted recreation program staff.
- Monitors program enrollment to cancel or add additional sessions as necessary.
- Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises and evaluates part-time, seasonal, and/or contractual recreation staff.
- Administers programs within budget guidelines; follows budgeting and purchasing procedures.
- Communicates information about programs, answers and responds to telephone calls and email communications in a timely and professional manner.
- Enforces applicable rules and regulations with program participants and facility users.
- Handles grievances and/or discipline cases involving program participants, reports cases to management as appropriate.
- Prepares and reviews accurate and timely reports.
- Ensures compliance with safety procedures and policies, monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
- Monitors and makes cancellation calls due to inclement weather.
- Ability to work a varied schedule including days, evenings, weekends and some holidays.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in planning, organizing, and implementing recreation programs, events, and activities.
- Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques; ability to organize and supervise part-time and seasonal employees.
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in recreation activities.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently without routine supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively; ability to give and understand instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, guests and the general public.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions during periods of high volume and under pressure from the public.
- Ability to compile, analyze, and present data.
- Ability to positively adhere to and enforce Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation policy and procedures; implement emergency plans.
- Ability to operate a computer for database management and other software applications as may be necessary.
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as humidity, rain, or temperature extremes.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle to conduct work activities.
- Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field preferred
- Two years supervisory experience and/or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience preferred
- CPR/AED/First Aid certification required within 60 days (provided by CCPR)
- Must possess and maintain a valid Indiana driver's license.
