What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Coordinator - Summer Camp position at Carmichael Recreation & Park District?
This is a Summer Seasonal Position, Roughly June 7th to end of August.

THE POSITION
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and the Full-Time Recreation Coordinator, the Camp Coordinator is responsible for youth and adult sports program planning, implementation, and oversight.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & SKILLS
Include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist the Full-Time Recreation Coordinator in training, directing, and evaluating the Recreation Leaders.
- Responsible for directing day-to-day camp activities (setting up games, activities, arts & craft projects, special events, and maintaining the safety of children while in fieldtrip events) and directing the Recreation Leaders.
- Assist the Full-Time Recreation Coordinator with administrative work (weekly activity schedules, collecting time sheets with signatures, health and safety forms, etc.).
- Model and teach professional work behaviors for staff development, such as monitoring children, engagement, communication, etc.
- Assists in maintaining supply and equipment inventory.
- Has a positive and open means of communication with youth, parents, and co-workers.
- Performs daily inspection and preparation of program facilities.
- Make camp a positive experience for everyone involved.
- Ability to work flexible hours and come to camp well-rested and prepared to work.
- Model and teach the campers the importance of honesty, trust, responsibility, consistency, and respect for campers and equipment.
- Attends trainings, meetings, and evaluations with supervisors.
- Projects an attitude of care and concern for participants and staff.
- Similar duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of youth development, recreation programs and planning, and an ability to lead groups and activities (1-3 years of work experience with increasing responsibilities preferred)
- Ability to successfully work both independently and collaboratively on a team
- Effective communication skills
- Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
- Strong desire to work with children
- Knowledge in youth development and recreation planning
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Any combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Sitting; standing; running, walking over uneven ground; lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying up to 50 lbs
- Environmental Demands:
- Outside: Works outside in a variety of weather conditions ranging from cold rainy weather to 100° F.
- Inside: Works indoors in large buildings and gymnasiums.
SALARY:
$19.50 - $23.71 per hour DOE
- most applicants will start at $19.50
