Job Summary: The Security Control/Low Voltage Technician (The “Technician”) is the primary day-to-day contact for security/access control support and reports directly to the Manager of Facilities. The Technician will install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair critical life safety systems including but not limited to: Access Control, CCTV, Audio & Visual Equipment, Network Data cabling, Security & Life Safety systems and Electronic Door Entry. They will also perform related duties as assigned.
The Technician will attend inter-departmental and project job meetings, maintaining a high level of communication between all Facilities management team members as well as a solid working relationship with the IT Department.

Essential Functions:
- Perform accurate installation/integration, troubleshooting and maintenance on access control systems;
- Analyze complicated technical problems, evaluate various solutions and implement appropriate resolutions; decipher complex engineering drawings and specifications;
- Receive and assign work orders to resolve any customer issues while facilitating positive customer interactions;
- Work cooperatively and effectively with the public and staff to help develop work plans and assist in software configuration during design and development status of new projects;
- Exercise initiative and appropriate judgment; interpret and apply organizational policies and standards, and office processes and procedures;
- Manage schedule effectively and efficiently; working with minimal direct supervision;
- Read, write and perform mathematical calculations at the level required for successful job performance;
- Effectively learn and operate equipment and software related to the duties of the position;
- Work successfully with diverse populations; effectively and safely use and maintain equipment and tools required in the performance of the job duties, including assigned vehicles;
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Competencies & Qualifications:
- Ability to accurately install and integrate various Access/Security control and door entry systems to meet operational goals;
- Ability to effectively use industry specific electronic testing, hand and power tools;
- Ability to work under pressure and meet hard deadlines;
- Knowledge of various CCTV systems, Card Access door systems/ hardware specifications and life safety codes;
- Knowledge of routers, switches and networking systems;
- Honeywell & HIK factory training.;
- Basic knowledge of and experience with voice/key systems, POTS/Analog phone lines, video security cameras, DVRs, & NVRs and VoIP;
- Effective customer service and communication skills, including written and verbal;
- Demonstrated ability to properly use basic hand tools, power tools, and testing tools for the installation and testing equipment;
- Ability to work independently in the field
Education & Experience:
- Associates degree from a technical school or equivalent combination of training and experience;
- Five years of experience in the installation, commissioning and maintenance of life safety/ door access control, CCTV systems;
- Experience installing, troubleshooting and servicing of the following areas: CCTV, video monitoring, security systems, computer and low voltage cabling equipment;
- Certification in access control system design and installation.
- Experience with cat5e/6, Telephone systems, Access points, VOIP, Network racks, patch panels, 66 blocks, and cable management. Fiber a plus.
- Experience with cabling infrastructure installation, termination and testing to include but not limited to:
- Copper Category 5/6/7
- Floor mount/wall mount racks/cabinets
- Proper grounding application
- Inside Structured Wiring; installation of copper and terminations
- Experience with phone systems, VOIP, analog lines, paging, audio/video, etc. is preferred;
- Experience working in an institutional or educational environment;
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, with clean record.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Perform physically demanding labor that may include standing and maneuvering for long periods of time; working in an outside environment subject to inclement weather conditions, possible and/or frequent exposure to sun, humidity, and high or low temperatures; work around loud machinery, noise and/or pronounced vibration; exposure to dust and allergens; regularly work with or exposed to materials such as oils, grease, solvents, glues, adhesives, cleaning and de-greasing solutions and other chemicals. Requires ability to reach, grasp, pull, push, and carry various equipment and furniture across various types of surfaces; frequent maneuvering, stooping, crouching, bending at waist and knees; maneuver, twist, crawl and work in confined and cramped spaces (such as attics, crawl spaces, etc.); twist body up to 45 degree angle; frequent stretching, reaching and kneeling while operating tools and equipment; using proper bending and lifting techniques, lift and/or carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) with (or without) assistance (from floor level to above shoulder level); climb and descend 8 to 16 foot ladders and/or stairs (with heavy objects with or without assistance); work on wet, slippery surfaces; wear personal protective and safety equipment when appropriate and/or required (including a respirator); operate and manipulate hand, electric and all types of structural tools and equipment; exposure to sharp blades from tools and equipment.
