What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Associate - University Libraries position at Carnegie Mellon University?
Carnegie Mellon University’s department of the University Libraries are searching for a Library Associate to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing support for a wide range of library services, which may include ordering new library materials, cataloging, and responsibility for overdues. Your core responsibilities will include: Selects vendors and organizes, prioritizes and enters data for order requests into automated acquisitions system for purchase order production. Checks in items received on standing order, noting that the items received match the correct standing order and invoice. Responsible for the data entry for standing orders and problem solving. Resolves ordering problems with vendor and customer service representatives. Performs descriptive cataloging and reviews classification numbers assigned to materials. Maintains the bibliographic integrity of the library online catalog information. Makes corrections and adds new bibliographic data, which includes performing retrospective conversion of bibliographic records by using OCLC. Selects materials for tables of contents enhancement using local guidelines. Searches and locks bibliographic records in OCLC and adds table of contents data to master records in OCLC. Keeps statistics for enhanced catalog records. Coordinates and supervises bindery operations for books or periodicals. Staffs circulation desk, checks materials in and out, and is responsible for the cash drawer. Responsible for processing overdues and fines/fees notices, collecting fines, cash management, and resolving problems. Shelves library materials and participates in collection shifting, and collection measurement and stack work. Processes interlibrary loan lending requests. Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates student assistants and/or staff. Participates in performance management process. As needed, performs some general office duties, such as ordering supplies, answering phones, sending faxes, etc. Attends and participates in departmental and other organizational meetings, seminars and classes.
