Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
About the Role
Indian Mountain School is seeking a Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging to join its senior leadership team. The successful candidate will be responsible for advancing and integrating equity, inclusion, and belonging principles into all aspects of school life.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement events and initiatives that foster an inclusive, equitable school environment.
- Assess the unique needs of students across different social identities and implement innovative strategies to improve their experiences.
- Work closely with faculty and staff to strengthen Restorative Justice practices and address complex interpersonal student issues.
- Provide teachers with classroom support and guidance in integrating equity, inclusion, and belonging content.
Faculty/Staff Support and Professional Development
- Plan and facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty and staff on culturally responsive teaching, anti-bias education, and equitable classroom practices.
- Implement the Framework for Anti-Bias Education using the Social Justice Standards.
- Serve as a thought leader, consultant, advisor, and resource on equity, inclusion, and belonging matters for faculty and staff.
Recruitment and Retention
- Strengthen efforts to recruit, retain, and support a racially diverse faculty and staff.
- Partner with the Admissions Office to further recruit a diverse student body and expand access and opportunities for students and their families.
- Support retention efforts of faculty/staff by ensuring an inclusive and supportive work environment through mentorship and providing affinity spaces.
Parents & Caregivers Support and Education
- Develop and facilitate equity, inclusion, and belonging programming for parents and caregivers that promotes belonging.
- Act as a liaison and resource for families regarding equity, inclusion, and belonging concerns.
- Coordinate workshops and training sessions to support an inclusive school community.
Board and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) Partnership
- Collaborate with the Head of School and the Board on strategic equity, inclusion, and belonging goals and objectives.
- Partner with the SLT and the Board of Trustees to ensure equity, inclusion, and belonging values are consistently embedded in policies and procedures and aligned with the school's mission and long-term strategic planning.
- Assess IMS's current equity, inclusion, and belonging programs using data.
- Track the progress and effectiveness of equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives year over year.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a school setting, a deep understanding of equity, inclusion, and belonging principles, and excellent communication and collaboration skills.
