Job Description
We are seeking a Supervisor, Pro DJ’s and Digital Music who will partner closely with the Manager, Music Direction to oversee all recorded music played onboard Carnival’s fleet of ships, as well as managing Carnival’s top-notch Pro DJ program with the largest nightclub operation at sea. Supports our roster of Pro DJ’s by knowing current music trends, developing training materials, maintaining equipment inventory and maintenance, and ensuring team member development. Partners with the Casting and Booking department to develop strategies for attracting and retaining the most talented and engaging DJ’s, well suited to the creative strategy. Partners with our Entertainment Experience team to develop strong training program for Fun Squad and staff DJ responsibilities. Assists in developing and maintaining the background music strategy, including styles of music, repertoire, programming, and scheduling that reinforces the Carnival brand. Maintains vendor relationships for background music, DJ equipment, and DJ partnerships for the company. Partners with the leadership of other departments, most notably Bar and Dining, to ensure a fully integrated and cohesive guest experience which maximizes revenue opportunities. Serve as brand representative for DJ programming, including specialty events requiring recorded music. Provide shoreside leadership to the onboard DJs ensuring creative focus and good morale.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Partners with Fleet Music Managers to maintain onboard DJ Program through shoreside support, team member development and training, equipment & software troubleshooting, and repair & maintenance.
- Updates Carnival’s music library frequently through multiple sources and partnerships, while researching latest music trends and hit songs to keep up with current crowd requests.
- Partners with Casting & Booking Supervisor to assist with recruiting strategy and scheduling of Pro DJ program.
- Partners with the Manager, Entertainment Experience to identify strategies for the enhancement and training of the shipboard DJ staff including creating training documents, organizing training videos, and coaching Music Managers on DJ operations.
- Maintains background music vendor relationship and what background music is provided. Ensures that playlists are specific to each port, suits the onboard demographic, and is on brand for the venue and company.
- Maintains vendor partnerships with professional gear manufacturing companies, DJ software companies, and DJ Expos, representing Carnival’s brand professionally and positively and owning the purchasing of all DJ gear for the fleet.
- Cross trains to understand and assist with license agreements and music royalties for Carnival’s fleet of ships, understanding the current agreements set in place with the appropriate Performance Rights Organizations.
- Monitor TGEM scores and develops strategies for continuous improvement, ensuring the shipboard teams are focused in this area.
- Brand representative of specialty events including Skyy's the Limit Party, White Nights Party, Serenity Music Under the Stars, Liquid Nightclub, etc.
- Continually analyze policies, processes, and systems, and develop strategies for improving future results.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates Degree in Music, Music Production, Music Business
- 3-5 years of music/entertainment industry experience. Cruise and/or hospitality industry preferred
- Serato and other DJ Software, iOS Proficient, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree a Plus
- Deep knowledge and understanding of DJ styles, equipment, and software. Strong musical talent and familiarity with a broad range of styles/genres, current music trends and knowledge of the music industry. Demonstrated ability to promote creativity and train diverse pool of DJ’s. Brings strong industry connections and can develop/maintain vendor relationships. Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) with ability to interact and partner with people at all levels including executives. Strong organizational skills with ability to set priorities and meet challenging deadlines. Management skills – the ability to coach and develop team members. Interpersonal skills, ability to give and receive constructive feedback. Ability to multi-task, managing multiple projects at one time.
