JOB DESCRIPTION :
Serve as Chief Administrator of Transportation with responsibility for all bus drivers and serves as a liaison for administration and parents. Position also includes the coordination of selected building / grounds / maintenance efforts listed in this job description.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- High School Diploma or equivalent; a college degree is preferred.
- Three years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Valid Michigan CDL license with passenger transportation, S and P endorsements and air brake endorsements required.
- Must have demonstrated experience working independently; organizing and assigning tasks; enforcing safety procedures and awareness; making judgment decisions and meeting timelines. Must have in-depth knowledge of the transportation operations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS :
Assume direct supervision of the Transportation personnel. The Director must maintain the highest moral and ethical standards set forth by the district.Assist the administration in contract negotiations with the Transportation Staff and Custodial / Maintenance Staff.Maintain the Personnel Policy Manual, listing job descriptions and all salary benefit items, for the two (2) employee groups listed above.Share responsibility for the assignment of all Custodial / Maintenance and Transportation employees for weekend and after-hours events. This responsibility necessitates communication with the principals, and knowledge of building calendars and usage requests.Responsible for extra bus trips; and the daily responsibility of obtaining substitute drivers. Shares responsibility for obtaining substitutes for custodians.Maintain daily absence reports for all two employees groups.Assists in preparing all proposals / specifications outlining bids for maintenance / contractual services projects. The Director will be responsible for monitoring all contracted service projects.Maintaining records for the bus fleet. This includes all mileage reports for regular routes; field trips; and interscholastic athletic program trips. This also includes establishing bus routes, and maintenance of the bus fleet to meet the State Police Inspections.Be certified with the Department of Education as a Supervisor of Transportation and School Bus Driver.Assume responsibility for becoming the District’s contract person with the following organizations : Tuscola County Supervisors of School TransportationTuscola County Special Education Transportation (shared responsibility)The district’s Worker Compensation Insurance carrier, relating to our safety needs and inspections. (shared responsibility)State Fire Marshal, relating to the Boiler Inspections and code requirements.Oversee the training for new bus drivers to meet the CDL requirements and pass the Department of Education training.Assist the superintendent in determining the safety of road conditions for the transportation of the students.Communication of the Bus Code of Conduct and due process to students, parents, administration and bus drivers, including bus letters to homes and administrators as needed.Assist drivers and principals with transportation related to student disciplinary matters.Assist in the completion of all state-mandated Cost and Reconciliation reports.Attend Board of Education meetings and others as requested or needed.Assist in development of specified budget items for the district’s General Fund and Capital Projects Fund.Share responsibility for the hiring of, training, evaluation and discipline and effective utilization of personnel under the direction of the superintendent.Share personnel function to conduct job bids, the establishment of job qualifications and job duties of staff within the Transportation units.Departmental payroll, over-time and vacation schedules.Budgetary responsibility for the departments and personnel under his / her supervision.Ability to work cooperatively with District Central Administration and Supervisor of Building / Grounds / Maintenance in the identification, assessment, planning, cost analysis, and the preparation of bid specifications for the Summer Project Program as well as coordinating efforts in working with outside contractors on day-to-day maintenance and building issues.Assist coordination of all Local, State and Federal Regulations that are related to the facilities, grounds, operations and personnel under his / her supervision; including but not limited to energy conservation, MIOSHA regulations, EPA regulations, fire codes, asbestos management, ADA regulations, Storm Water regulations, etc.Models and enforces the established district and school policies, regulations and protocols.As required, occasionally work beyond the standard work week or work day to complete necessary tasks and handle emergencies.Develops relationships with vendors and suppliers.Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff and students.Perform other duties and obligations as assigned by the Superintendent.COMPENSATION : Range $61,500 – $69,500 based on experience
This position shall provide negotiated health insurance. This position will earn retirement credit and include scheduled time off and sick days.
