Position Overview
The Sewing Machine Mechanic will be responsible for performing setup, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance on industrial sewing machines.
What you'll do
- Perform setup, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance on industrial sewing machines.
- Make unscheduled repairs on production equipment during production and perform scheduled maintenance during machine servicing.
- Read and interpret manuals to perform required maintenance and service.
- Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test, and adjust equipment.
- Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of production equipment.
- Assist in training sewing machine operators in the proper setup and operation of machines.
- Comply with all facility safety rules and regulations.
- Comply with OSHA safety and health rules.
- Report any unsafe practices and / or conditions to your supervisor.
- Maintain floor safety discipline by interceding with fellow employees who may engage in rule violations and / or unsafe, unhealthy activities.
- Communicate to management those employees who persist in violations of safety rules and / or procedures.
- Wear required personal protective equipment properly and report any defective PPE.
- Report all near misses, accidents, injuries, or illnesses, including Muscular Skeletal symptoms or disorders.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Able to use and read a tape measure
- General knowledge of fabrics and hand cutting of fabrics
- Ability to use production equipment and hand / power tools
- Capable of standing for extended periods
- Capable of lifting on a continuous basis
- Regularly required to talk and hear
- Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching
- Frequently lift and / or move objects over 35 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required (close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and ability to focus)
- Repeating motions involving wrists, hands, and / or fingers
- Wear safety shoes (steel-toed)
- Wear safety glasses that meet ANSI Z87.1
- Wear earmuffs with an NPR (noise reduction rating) of 30 dB
