Family Support/Supervised Visitation Specialist

As a Family Support Specialist you will be directly responsible for supporting and equipping parents/guardians with the tools necessary to provide a safe and nurturing environment. You will provide direct services to assist with the re-unification process of the family.

As a Visitation Specialist will monitor visits between a non-custodial parent and child or children. Your duties typically focus on picking up the child(ren) and transporting to the scheduled visit ensuring that the child remains safe during the interaction. While your responsibility includes intervening if the child is in danger or uncomfortable, you will usually function as an observer. Most visitation meetings occur in the family home or neutral location.

You may be asked to attend team meetings or when a court order requires that a third party supervise the interaction. You are required to document your observations of the meeting.

Experience

Candidates should have a background in social work, psychology, or a related field. Experience working directly with children and families is essential. Familiarity with crisis management, behavioral health, conflict resolution, and child protective services will be highly valued. Skills in motivational interviewing and crisis intervention are preferred. A strong commitment to supporting families facing various challenges is crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

1. Conduct supervised visitations:

Monitor visits between parents and children, ensuring compliance with guidelines and policies. Observe and document parent-child interactions, reporting any concerns or violations. Maintain a neutral and non-judgmental presence throughout the visitation process.Implement appropriate interventions or strategies to address conflict or challenging situations.

2. Provide logistical support for visitations:

Transport child/youth with personal vehicle to and from visits with parent.Communicate relevant information to the appropriate parties within the organization.

3. Offer family support services:

Provide emotional support and guidance to families during visitations and other family support sessions.Collaborate with other professionals involved in the family's case to ensure cohesive support services.

4. Ensure safety and security:

Follow protocol to maintain a safe and secure environment during visitations.Monitor for any safety concerns or signs of abuse, reporting immediately as required by organizational policies.Respond appropriately to emergency situations, including contacting emergency services when necessary.

5. Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation regarding visitation sessions.Prepare written reports on visitation observations, incidents, or concerns as required.Submit all necessary reports and documentation in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, essential for timely and consistent support to families.

High school diploma/GED required, bachelor's degree in social work or related field preferred.

Experience working with families and children, preferably in a social services or child welfare setting preferred.

Knowledge of child development, parenting skills, and family dynamics.Strong observational and documentation skills.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Bilingual is a plus!

Ability to work independently, demonstrating sound judgment and decision-making.

Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic diversity.

Familiarity with community resources and services.

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or as needed based on client requirements.

Valid Driver's License and Auto Insurance

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.50 - $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 34 per week
