Job Summary
The Controller will be responsible for accounting and financial management including financial reporting, job costing, budgeting, and forecasting. This will include managing and participating in a variety of accounting related tasks such as but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and compliance. This role requires a strong understanding of construction accounting principles, the ability to provide strategic financial guidance to senior management, and the ability to lead and manage others working in the Accounting & Administration department.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Management:
- Direct Supervision and mentoring of the Accounting & Administration Department staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Develop and implement training programs for accounting staff.
- Work closely with project managers and operations teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and cost control.
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and analyze accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Develop and maintain detailed job costing and project accounting systems, ensuring accurate tracking of project costs and revenue.
- Monitor and manage cash flow, including forecasting and analysis, to optimize working capital.
- Prepare and present financial reports and analyses to senior management, providing insights into financial performance.
- Analyze variances between actual and budgeted costs, identifying areas for improvement.
- Prepare all financials for CPA review
Accounting Operations:
- Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
- Ensure compliance with all tax regulations and filings, including sales tax, payroll tax, and income tax.
- Manage and maintain internal controls and procedures to safeguard company assets.
- Coordinate and manage annual audits and reviews.
- Manage the processing and compliance of lien waivers.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Prepare and analyze financial forecasts and projections, providing insights into future financial performance. Provide financial guidance and support for project bidding and cost control, ensuring accurate project estimates.
Risk Management & Compliance:
- Identify and mitigate financial risks, including project-related risks and credit risks.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and industry standards.
- Manage and maintain insurance and bonding requirements specific to the glass and glazing industry, project specific requirements, and company set standards
- Manage contract review process to ensure all contracts are reviewed prior and marked up/negotiated when required prior to execution
Software/Systems Management:
- Proficiently utilize and manage construction accounting software
- Implement and optimize accounting systems and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance is required (a minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in a Controller position for a construction company may be acceptable in lieu of Bachelor’s degree)
- Minimum of 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the construction subcontracting industry, specifically with glass and glazing experience preferred.
- Must have the ability to manage financials statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement, etc)
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, percentage completion, WIP reporting, and lien waivers.
- Proficiency in accounting software (preferably Sage 300 for Construction & Real Estate) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially advanced Excel skills).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial personnel.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of tax regulations and compliance, including sales tax and prevailing wage.
- Experience with bonding and insurance requirements within the glass and glazing industry.
