What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at Carolina Internal Medicine Associates?
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
· Interviewing patient to determine medical problem/condition and documenting in patient’s chart.
· Obtaining and recording patient’s height, weight, and vital signs.
· Assisting physician with patient examination as needed.
· Reviewing physician’s orders, lab requests, or follow-up needs with patient.
· Cleaning and dressing wounds.
· Administering specified medication orally or by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection; documenting time and dosage in patient’s chart.
· Maintaining medication and immunization history.
· Performing electrocardiography and respiratory testing.
· Collecting samples such as blood, urine, and sputum for testing.
· Disinfecting exam rooms after each patient visit.
· Maintaining supplies; ordering supplies; disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
· Responding to patient telephone and portal inquiries.
· Maintaining patient records for Quality Assurance measures
· Prompt and regular attendance
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; English grammar and usage.
· Ability to read and interpret medical procedures and terminology.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
Education and Experience:
· One-year certificate from college or technical school;
· Three to six months related experience and/or training; or the
· Equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that would provide the required skills and abilities.
Licensure/Certifications:
· CMA, RMA, LPN, EMT strongly preferred.
