Title: Project Superintendent

Base Location: High Point, NC with 90-120 days a year traveling outside the United States

Reports to: Project Manager / Operations Manager

Estimated Annual Compensation: $100,000 plus bonus opportunities

Job Summary: Primarily responsible for the successful completion of each project. Key areas of responsibility include safety, project planning, execution, quality and project close-out.

Project Responsibilities

Safety:

  • Review project hazard assessment at project start with the crew and ensure daily job start talks are delivered.
  • Ensure safety, health, and environmental standards are met, while noting and correcting any deficiencies.
  • Conduct safety inspections weekly, correcting and training crewmembers on jobsite safety.
  • Ensure safety documentation is completed daily.
  • Oversee jobsite safety in countries with limited rescue and medical capabilities
  • Develop and implement safety plan for each project, comply with client requirements for safety and maintain a good relationship with safety officers at each location.

Planning:

  • Conduct project site visit prior to job turnover meeting.
  • Confer with sales, estimators, production managers and logistics in a turnover meeting to understand all aspects of a project before beginning work.
  • Create a plan before the project begins by reviewing the estimate, project specifications, materials, equipment and deliverables.
  • Design a reasonable project schedule including project benchmarks.
  • Create a project materials and equipment load sheet.
  • Ensure client and project specific documents are in the project binder.
  • Observe trailer load out prior to crew mobilization.
  • Assist in coordinating complex logistics to get equipment and materials to the jobsite
  • Coordinate with operations manager and project manager to maintain project schedule
  • Establish and communicate benchmark dates with administrative staff for logistics, rental equipment, visas and flights

Execution:

  • Ensure foreman and crew understand the scope of work and have a work plan to complete the project.
  • Document the initial condition of the infrastructure by taking pictures (before photos).
  • Set project benchmarks with crew buy-in.
  • Establish project expectations for surface preparation, material usage and finished product that meets the specification and client expectation.
  • Track and report job progress daily in terms of materials, equipment and labor.
  • Relay information to foremen clearly and quickly to make jobsite adjustments.
  • Identify conflicts in project progress and communicate with production leadership for resolution.
  • Meet with clients throughout the project, providing progress reports, listening to project concerns and answering questions.
  • Ensure the jobsite is clean and housekeeping standards are met.
  • Oversee performance of the crew—mentoring and training team members.
  • Develop and present training subjects related to safety, quality and work processes.
  • Complete preventive maintenance requirements on equipment in the field.
  • Report and tag broken equipment during the project.
  • Minimize schedule extensions through problem solving, efficient task management, coordination with client and improved processes

Quality:

  • Attend project progress meetings and give feedback for delivering a successful project
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key client personnel including facility managers, engineers and staff
  • Ensure that surface preparation and application are being done in accordance with the product data sheets
  • Inspect progress to ensure all work is completed to specification and client expectations are met.
  • Perform quality control inspections teaching crewmembers and addressing any issues found.
  • Document that work is completed as specified in the contract. If something is missing, incomplete or not done correctly, document and take steps to correct it.

Closeout:

  • Conduct final walkthrough with the crew to review lessons learned from the project and to celebrate success.
  • Conduct a final walkthrough with clients to review the project, answer questions and ensure satisfaction.
  • Document final condition of infrastructure by taking after photos from the same perspective as before photos.
  • Once project is complete, ensure project binder and photos are turned in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate client invoicing with Sales Admin.

Other Duties:

  • Oversee maintenance and repair of international coatings equipment
  • Assist with procurement of necessary equipment and materials for each project
  • Oversee packing for each project including maintaining an accurate loadout sheet, palletizing, building crates, and loading containers or trucks
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment, materials and sundries for each project container deployed
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment, materials and supplies stored in the High Point shop
  • Provide leadership, training, and technical expertise throughout the organization for the development of team leaders
  • Assist N.C. based production sales team and conduct site visits to assess and propose projects

Job Requirements:

  • 5 years of coatings superintendent experience
  • Minimum AMPP CIP Level 1 or SSCP Coating Concrete Inspector Level 1
  • Ability to manage complex, technical coating system applications, sequence tasks for efficiency, manage budgets in multiple currencies, overcome cultural differences and work long hours
  • Competency with Microsoft Office, Gannt charts, budgeting and online forms application
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), carry paint, handle equipment, pressure wash, sandblast, apply coatings, wear required personal protective equipment, climb ladders, bending, standing, stoop, climbing or walking
  • Exposure to noise, moving machinery, dust, elevated heights, confined spaces, fumes, gases and chemicals

Special Requirements:

Must possess or obtain a vehicle suitable and appropriate for the type of business use, 18,000 lb. or better gross combination weight rating (GCWR).
