Job Title :   Geotechnical Construction Superintendent

Accountable to : General Superintendent

Department : Operations Group

FLSA Status : Full Time Exempt

Employees under their Direct Supervision : Foreman, Field Technicians

Standard Office Hours : Monday-Friday 8 am to 5 pm and other times as needed to reach goals or job duties.

Decision Making Authority : Responsible for the best interests of the company and its clients using allocated budgets for assigned jobs. Approval from the General Superintendent is required for specific matters as outlined in policies and procedures. The Superintendent is accountable for the field management of all jobsite activities under their direction, including equipment, work planning, client interface, and subordinate employee management.

Position Overview : Responsible for ensuring the completion of jobs in a manner that meets profitability / budget expectations while adhering to safety and quality control guidelines. Responsible for job execution : ensuring safe completion of jobs, meeting job specifications, demonstrating innovation and flexibility in achieving meaningful job metrics. The position entails a variety of duties related to job, equipment, and safety management.

Position Accountabilities, Responsibilities and Essential Functions :

The position requires close collaboration with the General Superintendent, Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, and President. Interaction with client project managers, client foremen, and third-party quality control is also essential.

  • Attention to detail and adherence to approved submittals
  • Constant communication with General Superintendent on job completion
  • Teamwork, collaboration, job planning, and communication of changes and issues in the field with direct supervisors to prevent delays
  • Utilization of techniques, processes, and procedures
  • Equipment monitoring and preventive maintenance
  • Timely reporting of job metrics
  • Adherence to legal, compliance, accreditation guidelines, and organizational policies / procedures
  • Ensuring personnel receive continuing education on applicable techniques and equipment for future use
  • 1. Job Progression and Completion

  • Review job plans and project requirements. Communicate with General Superintendent and Project Management staff regarding project details.
  • Coordinate job site mobilization and site coordination
  • Communicate engineering issues with General Superintendent
  • Document job progression through continuous photography
  • Achieve production goals set for each specific job
  • Manage a crew of approximately 3-15 individuals
  • Instruct crews on daily responsibilities and goals
  • Maintain organization of job site and trailers throughout the project
  • Receive and inventory materials
  • Organize and protect all materials from inclement weather and theft
  • Interface with clients as necessary to ensure timely job completion
  • Demobilize job site upon completion
  • 2. Equipment / Tool Responsibility

  • Ensure all equipment is in good / safe working condition
  • Coordinate necessary equipment maintenance with General Superintendent / Mechanic
  • Maintain operational order and protection of equipment at all times
  • Track and update tool inventory
  • Report lost or stolen items promptly to the General Superintendent
  • Ensure all equipment is clean before demobilization from the job
  • 3. Safety Enforcement and Discipline

  • Conduct safety toolbox talks
  • Ensure employees wear required PPE
  • Implement specific and proper safety training
  • Provide equipment orientation and training for safe operation
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of the job site
  • 4. Job Tracking

  • Complete daily reports
  • Fill out specific job logs (grouting logs, injection logs, drill logs, etc.)
  • Submit all paperwork such as job logs and delivery tickets to the Assistant Project Manager
  • Submit all receipts to the General Superintendent
  • Essential Skills, Experience, and Expertise :

  • Education : High School diploma. Technical training is a plus
  • Experience : 2-4 years of experience in geotechnical field construction
  • Action-oriented foresight and innovative approach to job completion
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills : Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills required. Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups and manage conflicts
  • Attention to Detail, Organization, and Short / Long Range Goals : Excellent skills necessary
  • Drilling knowledge and experience is mandatory for this position required
  • Driver’s License : Required
  • 30 Hour OSHA certification required within the first 12 months of employment
  • Off Road Forklift Certification required within the first 12 months of employment perferred
  • CDL Class A is a bonus
  • ACI Nozzleman Certification required within the first 12 months of employment perferred
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment :

    Work is primarily conducted in an outdoor / field setting with irregular schedules and potential overtime. High levels of interaction with internal and external individuals are required. Travel within the service area is necessary, with mileage from home dictated by job location. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a professional demeanor. Physical activities may include sitting, standing, walking, stooping, climbing, pulling, lifting, and using phones, computers, software, and office equipment. Temperature ranges from 0°F to 100°F during tasks, with noise levels typical of field environments. Hazardous conditions or chemical exposure should be referred to SDS sheets.

    Special Position Requirements –

    Travel : Potentially exceeding 95% as determined by job location. Appropriate attire for the work environment is required.

    Must have 5-8 years of drilling experience.

    Pay : up to base salary of $125,000 per yr. plus bonus
