What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotmist - Duncan Office position at Carolina Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical Associates?
Phlebotomist needed for busy multidisciplinary medical office.
- Verify patient by reading patient identification.
- Obtain blood specimens via venipuncture and fingerstick, urine specimens via patient clean catch, and sputum via oral swab.
- Maintains specimen integrity by using an aseptic technique, following department procedures, and observing isolation procedures.
- Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting collection times; maintains daily tallies of collections performed.
- Maintains quality results by following department policies and procedures.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the physician, pathologist, clinical staff, or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders.
- Must be able to travel between locations.
Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma and documented phlebotomy training/education and certification by a nationally recognized body. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Computer/EMR experience is highly desirable.
