TITLE: Assistant Controller
SUMMARY: We are partnering with a global manufacturer of complex equipment that is looking to bring on a leader in their Assistant Controller role. The role is newly created and will report to an excellent Controller and CFO that have a vision for the company. The company has multiple divisions and the Assistant Controller will manage a team of 5 -7 direct reports. The role will focus on these key areas:
- 35% - Facilitate the Sale Tax process
- 35% - Manage the Accounts Payable
- 20%- Manage the Accounts Receivable
- 10% - Oversee the Payroll Manager
- Continue to build and develop accounting processes and policies while developing the team.
DESCRIPTION:
1. Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight
- Lead, supervise, and provide mentorship to the accounts payable and receivable teams.
- Ensure invoices, payments, and receipts are processed accurately and on time.
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls to protect company assets.
- Monitor account activity to identify and resolve discrepancies or issues efficiently.
2. U.S. Sales Tax Compliance
- Manage and mentor the sales tax compliance team.
- Oversee the accurate calculation, filing, and payment of U.S. sales taxes in adherence to federal and state regulations.
- Stay informed on changes to tax laws that may impact the organization.
- Prepare and file sales tax returns while managing correspondence with tax authorities.
3. Payroll Administration
- Supervise and support the payroll manager.
- Ensure the accurate processing of payroll, including deductions, benefits, and compliance with wage and hour laws.
- Address employee payroll inquiries and resolve issues promptly.
- Collaborate with HR and other departments to ensure smooth payroll operations.
4. Process Optimization
- Identify opportunities to improve and streamline financial processes.
- Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency within the finance function.
5. Collaboration and Cross-Functional Support
- Partner with the Controller and other finance team members to meet departmental objectives.
- Assist with external audits and internal control evaluations.
- Serve as a resource for other departments, offering guidance on financial processes and best practices when needed.
EXPERIENCE:
- 7–10 years of accounting experience.
- Background in manufacturing or distribution industries.
- Comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and procedures, including month-end reporting and financial forecasting.
- Strong analytical and research abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Salary : $120,000 - $140,000
