Job Summary
We are seeking a Purchasing Specialist to join our team! As a Purchasing Specialist, you will be working with multiple departments to determine their supply needs, place orders, and assist in finding the tools they need to do their jobs. You will also be assisting in contract management, following up on supply requests, and monitoring inventory levels of essential goods. The ideal candidate has strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to multitask and shift priorities as needed, and an understanding of supply chain procedures.
Responsibilities
Researching the market to find the best deals and ensure timely delivery
Perform vendor and supplier research to enhance profitability, reduce operating costs, and boost efficiency
Use data to determine the purchasing needs of the company
Place orders for products based on inventory needs
Monitors purchase orders to ensure timely product availability and manages any changes in quantities or delivery timelines.
Manages drayage operations to move containers from the port to the warehouse
Coordinates all import related tasks, including documentation, compliance with customs regulations and ensuring tariff and duty requirements are met.
Liaise with customs brokers and freight forwarders to oversee customs clearance
Ensures all import documentation is accurate and provided to the necessary parties.
Process customer FCL (container-full) orders
Maintain records and follow-up files of purchases, shipments, and related matters
Work with warehouse team members to inspect the products received for quality and quantity to ensure adherence to specifications
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with vendors and suppliers, acting as the point of contact for purchasing and international logistics.
Resolve discrepancies with vendors and suppliers
Negotiate pricing with vendors and suppliers in accordance with the company’s goals and targets
Other related duties as assigned
Requirements
In-depth knowledge of purchasing functions, inventory and supply management systems
Familiarity with importing processes, customs regulations, and logistics coordination
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Advanced proficiency in MS office, particularly Excel, is required, with a strong ability to utilize complex functions and data analysis tools.
Occasional overtime as required
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration or similarly related field preferred from an U.S. accredited university / college
2 years of experience in a purchasing or supply chain position
