We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Electrical Design Engineer . This role is based out of Tonawanda, NY. This role works on our Engineering and Compliance team and reports to our Controls & Automation / Electrical Engineering Manager.
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the independent development of electrical schematics, junction box layouts, PLC / HMI control panels, pinouts, and wiring diagrams as well as conduit / cable tray systems for OEM equipment used in local and global markets. Has a firm understanding of governing electrical codes and engineering principles. You're able to apply these to product design & drafting, product improvements, post-shipment inquiries, and general problem-solving situations. Functions will generally be conducted under the guidance of experienced engineering staff but do require independent problem solving and decision making at times.
This position is a full-time, exempt role. There will be occasional travel between Port Colborne, Canada and Tonawanda for shop visits and group meetings.
What you'll do :
- Read and interpret customer provided electrical specifications.
- Read / Review / Comment on drawing packages for customer provided PLC / HMI control systems.
- Ensure compliance with applicable design codes (NEC / CEC / CE / IEC Primarily w / Occasional Others)
- Create electrical elementary drawings - described in job summary above.
- Size and specify wire, wire types, conduit, cable tray, glands, etc.
- Occasional shop testing of basic electrical products. Basic skills with multimeter required.
- Scheduling of NRTL electrical inspectors for compliance listing of final electrical products.
- Provide production staff required support during fabrication of design and during NRTL inspection.
- Assist project managers with technical concerns as required.
- Ability to multitask between 5-7 projects simultaneously - appropriate clerical organization is critical.
