Working under the direction of the Foreman, you will assist with various maintenance tasks while ensuring a safe work environment. What You Will Do
As a Road Maintenance Worker I, you will perform traffic control duties, operate various equipment, and maintain vehicles. Working under the direction of the Foreman, you will assist with various maintenance tasks while ensuring a safe work environment. The work you do will help to ensure the County's roadways are kept safe and clear.
Essential Duties
- Perform traffic control duties including flagging traffic and setting up traffic control devices.
- Operate various small equipment such as mowers, rollers, weed eaters, tampers, chain saws, air compressors/jack hammers. Assist in maintaining equipment and tools.
- Perform maintenance duties such as digging, cleaning ditches and drains, shoveling and spreading blacktop/stone and chips, clearing debris, removing trash, sweeping streets, cutting weeds and brush, and mowing.
- Maintain vehicles, including completing vehicle inspection reports required by Department of Transportation.
- Assist drivers with hooking up equipment and backing of trucks.
- Perform snow removal as needed.
- Follow all established safety rules and regulations. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
- Complete assigned work in a timely fashion. Accept feedback.
- Demonstrate an ability to collaborate and a willingness to learn. Participate in a supportive work environment.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
- Up to one year of related experience
- A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.
- Valid driver's license
- Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card
- State of Maryland Flagging Certification (or must obtain within six months of employment)
- Will be required to work outside of standard hours.
- May be identified as Essential Personnel during emergency situations.
- Summer hours are typically Monday through Thursday from 6:00 am - 4:30 pm. Winter hours are typically Monday through Friday from 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
- Daily exposure to potentially adverse weather conditions.
- Work includes daily physical activity: lifting and carrying over 50lbs, climbing ladders, and related activities.
- Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
