We’re on the lookout for an enthusiastic and experienced Athletic Director (AD) to lead and shape the future of our school’s athletic programs. As the AD, you will oversee all aspects of the school’s athletics, ensuring that every program reflects the values of our institution and provides a positive, supportive environment for our student-athletes. Key Responsibilities:
- Program Leadership: Design and launch a dynamic athletic program for grades 6-12, while enhancing physical education for grades K-5 to engage students, foster teamwork, and inspire personal growth.
- Staff Support: Partner with the Human Resource Director and Sr. Executive Director to recruit and develop qualified coaches and support staff, ensuring alignment with school policies and a commitment to professional growth across all teams.
- Scheduling and Coordination: Organize and coordinate practices, games, tournaments, and events, ensuring efficient use of our athletic facilities and resources for a smooth-running program.
- Budgeting and Finance: Manage the athletic department’s budget, lead fundraising initiatives, and ensure financial transparency and accountability.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure all activities comply with state regulations, school policies, and league/tournament rules, putting student-athlete safety and well-being at the forefront of every decision.
- Facility Oversight: Oversee the maintenance and safety of athletic facilities, collaborating with maintenance staff to ensure that all spaces meet operational standards.
- Transportation Management: Manage the transportation needs of student-athletes for games and events. AD must hold or be willing to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to support athletic team transportation.
- Community Engagement: Serve as the bridge between the school, parents, and the broader community, promoting the athletic program and fostering positive, lasting relationships.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 3-5 years of experience in athletic administration or coaching, preferably in a charter school environment.
- Strong knowledge of North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) regulations.
- Proven leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience in managing budgets and fundraising efforts.
- Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred, or willingness to obtain within six months.
- CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain before the athletic season begins.
- A passion for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in athletics.
Regulatory Compliance:
The AD must ensure all programs comply with:
- State Regulations: Adherence to North Carolina State Board of Education policies for middle and high school athletics.
- Charter School Policies: Compliance with North Carolina charter school operational requirements.
- Conference and Tournament Rules: Follow the rules established by athletic conferences and tournament organizations such as the NCHSAA or CAA4SC.
