What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Professor, Physics position at Carthage College?
The Department of Physics & Astronomy invites applications for a renewable one-year assistant professor position starting August 16, 2025. Primary teaching responsibilities include the lectures and labs of a full-year sequence in introductory algebra-based physics that primarily serves students pursuing pre-health careers.
Requirements:
- Should ideally have several years of experience teaching introductory physics with IPLS (introductory physics for life sciences) or pre-health orientation and experience in curriculum development for IPLS.
- Must have earned a Ph.D. (strongly preferred) or M.S. in Physics or a closely related field.
- Clear commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level.
- The expected teaching load for this position is 32 contact hours, which would take the form of 2 lectures and 2 labs in fall term, 2 lectures and 3 labs in spring term plus 1 course in January term or in the summer term.
Minimum Qualifications
- Masters in Physics or closely related field
- Three years of undergraduate physics teaching
- Commitment to best pedagogical practices in physics education
- Record of success in undergraduate physics instruction
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting a diverse student population in the classroom
