What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Victim Witness Outreach Coordinator position at Carver County?
The Victim Witness Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing, developing, coordinating, and implementing the community outreach, public information, education functions and programs to enhance community involvement, build relationships, and identify and engage the underserved populations within Carver County.
In addition, the Victim Witness Outreach Coordinator will carry a small caseload, performing duties involving the application of specialized knowledge of statutory responsibilities (Minnesota Statute 611A), records, reports, referral agencies and procedures. This position serves to improve the victims and witnesses' knowledge, comfort, convenience, and security during their involvement in the Criminal Justice System. The Victim Witness Coordinators provide notice of case developments, required appearances for victims and witnesses, provides referrals for crisis counseling or other services to victims and witnesses and acts as a liaison between the Criminal Justice System and victims and witnesses. This position assists criminal and juvenile division attorneys in handling victim cases and preparing for trial, and it serves as a link between law enforcement and criminal prosecution. The Coordinator educates and provides information and training regarding victim issues to others in the Criminal Justice System, to the public, schools and other organizations.
This is a temporary position and will work between 10-14 hours per week.•Performs duties to assist victims in their knowledge, comfort, security while experiencing the Criminal Justice System.•Attends court sessions on the cases pending.
•Collects, evaluates, and verifies information and correspondence to assist attorneys in the determination of appropriateness of legal action and preparation of cases for trial.
•Serves as an advocate to the victims and their families.
•Attends training sessions to keep abreast of changes, rules, laws, court procedures or other issues pertaining to the Victim Witness Program
•Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.
•Builds connections and opportunities with criminal justice partners and other community agencies to identify underserved citizens and help them access services.
•Organizes meetings and events and seeks opportunities to inform citizens on the crime victims services and crime victims' rights that are avaialble.• Bachelor's Degree Criminal Justice, Human Services, or a related field.
• Three years in a related field such as legal crisis intervention or advocacy.

• Valid Minnesota Driver's License or evidence of mobility.
