General Description :
The NC PreK Assistant Teacher is responsible for the care, supervision and management of the children in his/her assigned classroom. She/He is directly responsible for working closely with the Director and parents to ensure that proper care and education is maintained throughout the entire day at the preschool. She/He is expected to work as a team with fellow teachers, show leadership ability by shaping and coordinating the early childhood program.
Main Responsibilities:
- Implement detailed lesson plans in accordance with NC PreK program requirements using Creative Curriculum
- Adapt curriculum to address and met individual goals for children as identified in their individual education plans
- Assess individual and group needs, attending to special needs, specific interest, strengths concerns.
- Follow a consistent schedule, which includes small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, meals, and effective transitions between activities.
- Prepare classroom materials to support developmentally appropriate curriculum plans; create and change learning centers as needed
- Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental engagement.
- Communicate regularly with parents, regarding each child’s progress
- Conduct the required parent/teacher conferences and home visits for the purpose of assessment and support, and to share information on classroom progress and educational strategies at school and home
- Document baselines, ongoing assessments in CC Gold according to agency benchmarks
- Work collaboratively with the North Point Academy's administration to build capacity and maintain a positive image of the school’s mission
- Create an educationally stimulating classroom that supports a child’s natural curiosity
- Understand and implement Conscious Discipline methodology
- Create and maintain child portfolios
- Assist in meal preparation, serving and clean up
- Supervise during naptime
- Supervise and engage children during outdoor play
- Ensure all areas used by the children are cleaned and in order
- Recognize the symptoms of common childhood illnesses
- Help with general housekeeping tasks
- Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the program at all times
- Maintain confidentiality of children, parents, program and fellow staff members
- Treat all children with respect at all times
- Attend staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences
- Communicate any concerns associated with children, parents, classroom and teachers to the Program Director
- Dress appropriately in accordance with the established dress code
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Education & Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Bachelor’s Degree or AAS in Early Childhood Education
- Working knowledge of TSGold and the Creative Curriculum
- Infant, child and adult CPR, basic First Aid preferred
- Negative TB test required
- Qualification Letter from NC Division of Child Development required
Skills & Abilities
- Strong computer skills, to include using the NC PreK required software
- Have working knowledge of children’s physical, emotional and developmental ages and stages
- Able to communicate in a clear and effective manner
- Able to maintain professionalism
- Possess strong organization and planning skills
- Able to respond appropriately to emergencies
Physical Requirements
- Have mobility to ensure the safety of the children
- Perform light cleaning duties
- Work outdoors in any variety of weather
- Work with children on the floor
- Have visual and hearing capabilities consistent with child care licensing safety requirements
