Financial Empowerment Specialist (Spanish)
Casa Myrna is Greater Boston’s foremost provider of solutions to end domestic and dating violence. The agency operates three residential programs in Boston for survivors and children made homeless by domestic violence and commercial sexual exploitation, a comprehensive range of advocacy and supportive services, and SafeLink, Massachusetts’ statewide 24/7 toll-free domestic violence hotline. Casa Myrna believes that every relationship should be safe and healthy, and works to end domestic and dating violence through education, awareness and prevention
The Financial Empowerment Specialist supports survivors in Casa Myrna’s residential programs and community sites to achieve financial independence and stability. This role provides one-on-one guidance, group workshops, and referrals to resources addressing barriers to economic self-sufficiency. Topics include budgeting, credit, CORI advocacy, banking, education, job readiness, and professional skills-building. The ideal candidate is trauma-informed, equity-driven, and experienced with underserved communities. The position reports to the Employment Relations Coordinator.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Economic Stability
- Conduct individualized assessments to identify participant’s financial needs, goals, and barriers to stability.
- Develop and implement personalized economic stability plans focusing on employment readiness, budgeting and financial education, and credit building.
- Assist participants with resume building, interview preparation, and job search strategies.
- Facilitate connections with workforce development programs, training opportunities, and potential employers.
- Plan and deliver workshops and group sessions on financial literacy, career development, and related topics.
- Build and maintain partnerships with local organizations to expand access to economic resources and opportunities.
- Collaborate with Housing Specialist and other staff to coordinate participant screenings, intakes, and stabilization efforts, and ensures participants are connected to internal and external resources.
- Collaborate with team members to create and improve program materials and offerings.
Database & Reporting
- Track participants’ progress and maintain accurate records of services and update confidential case notes in the agency’s database.
- Prepare timely reporting on services provided, program outcomes, and participants’ successes for funders and stakeholders (internal & external) per agency protocols.
Advocacy
- Utilized trauma-informed practices while supporting participants to feel empowered as they work toward stability.
- Advocate for participants with service providers, employers, and government agencies to address economic barriers.
- Refer participants to community resources for childcare, transportation, housing, and other essential needs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Actively participates in team meetings, case review meetings, and other organization wide meetings to enhance skills, share insights, and support participant progress.
- Support and triage walk-in participants.
- Represents the agency at meetings with community collaborators and at other events as needed.
- Fosters a team-oriented environment, contributing to a positive workplace culture while supporting agency goals.
- Develops own professional development plan and attends trainings, meetings, and conferences within Casa Myrna and in the community.
- Other related duties as assigned by supervisor and agency.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Committed to Casa Myrna’s values and mission of ending domestic and dating violence and commercial exploitation, and promoting social justice and social change.
- Experience working with survivors of domestic/dating violence, trauma and abuse, and with marginalized communities, particularly communities of color.
- At least 2 years of experience in economic empowerment, workforce development, or a related area, with a focus on improving financial stability and career opportunities.
- Knowledge of financial literacy concepts and local economic resources including budgeting, credit checks, and resume building, and supporting participants interested in pursuing entrepreneurship by providing guidance on business finances and growth opportunities.
- Fluency in both Spanish and English required.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, crisis management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong preference for candidates who identify as a member of a marginalized community as Casa Myrna works to be an inclusive and equitable organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database systems.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and/or weekends as needed.
- Financial coaching certification is expected to be completed in the first year on the job.
Salary: $50,000- $55,000
Location: Boston (Dorchester)
Hours: full-time (4 days and 35 hours/week)
