Position Overview:
The Child Care Assistant at the Center for Women and Children plays an essential role in creating a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for the children of the CWC’s residents. This position is responsible for assisting in the daily care, supervision, and activities for children, ensuring their emotional, social, and developmental needs are met. The Child Care Assistant will work alongside other staff members to provide children with opportunities to grow, learn, and thrive in a positive, structured setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Child Supervision and Safety: Assist in the supervision of children during daily activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Age-appropriate Activities: Assist in planning and facilitating developmentally appropriate activities for children, including arts and crafts, games, reading, and outdoor play.
- Emotional Support: Provide emotional and behavioral support to children, fostering a caring and compassionate environment. Address any challenges that arise with patience and understanding.
- Parent and Resident Communication: Maintain open communication with parents, caregivers, and residents regarding their child’s behavior, needs, and progress. Offer support to parents when appropriate.
- Daily Care: Assist in tasks such as feeding, diapering, and ensuring children’s personal needs are met throughout the day.
- Behavior Management: Help implement positive behavioral guidance techniques to encourage healthy interactions, cooperation, and respect among children.
- Record Keeping: Document child progress, behavior, and any incidents or concerns in a timely and accurate manner, following all center policies for confidentiality and reporting.
- Cleanliness and Organization: Ensure that the child care area is clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies. Assist with the cleaning of toys and equipment to maintain a safe environment.
- Collaboration with Team: Work closely with other child care staff, parents, and residents to create a cohesive, supportive environment for children and their families.
- Assistance with Special Needs: Provide individualized support to children with special needs or behavioral challenges, in collaboration with the child care team.
- Participation in Staff Meetings: Attend regular staff meetings and trainings to stay informed about child development, safety protocols, and center policies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or certification in early childhood education, child development, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with children in a childcare setting is preferred.
- Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate activities.
- Ability to work effectively with children, staff, and families in a respectful and compassionate manner.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to manage challenging behaviors in a calm and constructive manner.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of children and the CWC.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 35 per week
