Job Title : Court Advocate Intern

Job Summary :

We are seeking a Court Advocate Intern for our NCS team, who will join a multidisciplinary team comprised of a Team Leader, Forensic Case Coordinator, Substance Use Specialist, Peer Specialist, Clinical Criminal Legal Specialist, and Program Assistant. The NCS team provides individualized clinical case management; linkage to services for mental health (including substance use problems) and medical treatment; and court-ordered supervision services. Each participant’s plan is individualized, responding to specific needs and risks to help each participant achieve and maintain recovery and reduce criminal recidivism. The role of the Court Advocate Intern is to provide a link between the court and the NCS program staff; this position will deliver ongoing updates to the court regarding NCS participants’ progress and will communicate information from the court to their NCS teammates and the participants. CASES is looking for an individual who is committed to social justice, and willing to learn evidence-based practices, effective violence risk management, and the principles of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed services.

Salary : There is no monetary salary compensation.

Shift Hours : Intern placements occur Monday - Friday from 9 : 00 AM - 5 : 00 PM – minimum of 2 days a week.

Location Address : 151 Lawrence St, 3rd Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11201. Our office is easily accessible by public transportation.

Workplace Flexibility : On-site - This role is 100% in-office / in person.

What You Will Be Doing :

• Collaborate with NCS colleagues to collectively manage the team caseload and ensure the court’s community supervision conditions are being met.
• Write professional and formal evaluation reports, in compliance with ATI requirements and quality standards, including court-ready reports in advance of scheduled court dates and in response to emergency or expedited situations.
• Accompany participants to all court appearances and advocate to judges, verbally and through written court reports, for participants to be enrolled or maintained in the CASES diversion services.
• Notify the court when participants are not in compliance, have gone missing (absconded), failed to report as required, or have been rearrested.
• Provide culturally competent services in accordance with CASES policies and practice.
• Any other duties as required by the Team Leader, Director, and Senior Director.
