Job Summary
The Data Advocacy Manager is a key member of the Data Advocacy Team, which strives to advance the use of data and information internally and externally for action-oriented, strategic decision-making to solve complex problems and drive meaningful change for children and families. This role engages with internal and external partners (including state and county child welfare leaders, Tribal child welfare leaders, individuals with lived expertise, legislators, the judiciary, etc) to support Data Advocacy’s core strategies: creating analysis, presentations and visualizations for communicating and monitoring progress on key outcomes; collaborating with a broad range of thought partners on the strategic use of data to drive excellence; contributing to the development and evolution of the infrastructure to equitably and effectively use, store, and share data; connecting child welfare data leaders across the country to dialogue about key analytical issues and surface new insights; and championing the development of data fluency and critical thinking to facilitate outcome-focused decision making.
Essential Responsibilities
Master’s Degree in social sciences, social work, public health, quantitative sciences, or other related field required, plus a minimum of 2 years’ experience analyzing data. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team Basic knowledge of research methods and basic statistical skills is required. Knowledge of child and family social services and community indicators is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Applicant must possess demonstrated skills in report writing for a variety of audiences including practitioners and Ability to develop graphical displays of data and visualize analytics. Essential Responsibilities
- Participate in and develop strategies to support Casey as a learning and data-driven organization. Conduct and facilitate trainings on a range of relevant topics, including making advanced analytical concepts accessible and understandable to a range of audiences, helping staff to develop data literacy and apply critical thinking skills, and building organizational capacity to effectively communicate impact.
- Use available state child and family welfare agency data to create and update reports and provide custom analysis. Conduct analyses and translate and disseminate findings using analytic software such as Tableau. Effectively communicate with/about data using graphs and other data visualizations, as well as in writing and verbally.
- Liaison to multiple internal Casey teams and external partner organizations, including participating in working groups and managing multifaceted discussion and requests for assistance.
- Create and manage the collection of data, including the timely and accurate collection of state Adoption & Foster Care Analysis & Reporting (AFCARS), National Child Abuse & Neglect Data System (NCANDS), and data from other non- child welfare data sources (i.e. ACS, Kids Count, etc). This includes oversight of key national and state-level data sharing agreements to monitor compliance, and managing/overseeing other data collection tools and processes (e.g. SharePoint®) as needed.
- Lead CQI and other analytical conversations with Casey’s strategic consultants and other staff, as well as external partners, requiring a strong foundation in CQI, analytical approaches/methodology, and child welfare policy and practice.
- Provide support for various research/measurement projects, including conducting literature reviews, or assisting with the development of survey instruments, analysis, plans, and report formats for other research and evaluation work.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word®, Excel®, PowerPoint® and Tableau®.
- Experience with SharePoint®.
- Demonstrated ability to learn other pertinent software programs as required.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift and reach for light objects; close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, text, and figures; ability to type utilizing a computer keyboard; ability to travel to outside locations; and the ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time as a primary job function.
- Ability to perform effectively in high pressure and stressful work environment while balancing the responsibilities and stressors inherent in the role.
- Ability to work onsite full-time to meet the collaborative responsibilities that are essential for Regular and reliable attendance is required.
