Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Billing Clerk to join our Therapy department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing billing processes, collecting payments, and interacting with patients regarding their bills.
**2-3 years of prior medical billing experience preferred.
Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or Graduation Equivalency Degree (GED). Two years of experience in customer service or health care setting is preferred. Candidates should also be familiar with patient scheduling, medical terminology, and healthcare privacy laws (HIPAA).

8. Working knowledge of insurance practices, including billing, prior authorization, and CPT codes
Physical Requirements:
1. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time without leaving the work area.
2. Using a computer and looking at the screen for up to 6 hours at a time.
3. Employees will occasionally be asked to lift files of paper weighing up to 30 pounds.
4. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, computer, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment as necessary.
5. Must be able to work a fast-paced environment.
6. Irregular hours may occasionally be required.
7. Regular finger and eye dexterity required.
8. Employee must be able to climb 20 stairs at a time.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintains the confidentiality of all protected health information.
2. Provides professional and efficient telephone services; transfer calls according to established protocols.
3. Proactively assists patients in accurately completing appropriate forms, and documents all information according to Casper Orthopedics procedures.
4. Verifies insurance benefits and eligibility by telephone or electronic measures.
5. Performs prior-authorizations for Physical Therapy visits and durable medical equipment (DME).
6. Accurately collects co-pays and deductibles throughout the shift and be able to balance all tender received throughout the day.
7. Assists in the readiness of the reception area for each working day; open the building at the designated time and have all front desk activities fully operational, when needed.
8. Assists in the charge entry process by collaborating with the therapists and the therapy office manager to ensure accuracy.
9. Assists in the payment posting process by scanning paper explanation of benefits and provides documentation to the proper peer. Posts payments to the appropriate patient account.
10. Assists patients with billing inquiries and effectively communicates pertinent information to the patient or internal staff members, in a timely manner.
11. Troubleshoots any account discrepancies to correct the patient accounts.
12. Collaboratively work with other departments, facilities, and providers to provide excellent patient care.
13. Reconciles paper checks with the proper explanation of benefits from the payer source.
14. Accurately and efficiently fulfills medical records requests in accordance with the standards set by the department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and Casper Orthopedics.
15. Schedules patient appointments, when necessary
16. Maintain the front office patient waiting area which may include light cleaning and janitorial duties. (Examples: dusting, vacuuming, mopping, sanitizing)
17. All employees have the responsibility to comply with the organizational policies, procedures, code of conduct, and pertinent governmental regulations, and licensing regulations related to the position.
18. Other duties as assigned.
