As the Director of Tax Equalization - Property, your day is a dynamic mix of leadership, analysis, and community engagement. You review appraisal reports for agricultural, commercial, and residential properties, ensuring the data aligns with Cass County's high standards for accuracy and fairness. Throughout the day, you might consult with your skilled team, providing mentorship and guidance as they navigate complex assessments or fine-tune the Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) system. You field inquiries from property owners, explaining assessed values and addressing concerns with confidence and clarity. You may prepare statistical reports, represent the department at hearings, or attend county commission meetings to discuss policies or defend assessments. Whether collaborating with staff, speaking to local groups, or navigating intricate budgets, your role is pivotal in maintaining public trust and fostering equitable taxation.
- Valid driver's license
- Bachelor's degree in business management, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5 years of progressively responsible experience in real estate appraisal
- 3 years in a managerial role
- Valid North Dakota State Class 1 Assessor's certificate or ability to obtain within 2 years of hire
- Knowledge of tax assessment procedures
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to defend assessments and effectively explain the process
- Ability to operate necessary computer software, such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal Systems (CAMA), & Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, and external government agencies
